A decade-long THANK YOU to DU

I joined DU four months before 9/11. Been here ever since. Five elections, three wars, endless horrors and the occasional victory...I was informed, educated, comforted and motivated by this place and the people who make it what it is.

Thank you Skinner, Elad and EarlG.

Thank you Mods past and present.

Thank you, DUers.

Thank you, DU.

It has been a long, savage, grueling ten years.

I don't know what I would have done without you.

Nothing is over. We are still involved in three wars, and there's another election coming up. We have plenty of defeats and reversals to look forward to.

But we made it through the last ten years together. I see no reason not to keep it up.

it was the day after Kerry "lost" the election - a most dreadful day for me and for many. DU was a light in the dark for all those years when the evil BushCo thrived.

I live in a very red part of the South, and I come here to get away from the constant Repuke talking points I hear from family, friends, and co-workers. I love DU and hope it's around for a long, long time. :toast:

The DU community and their posts, has helped to hold me together and has let me vent since 2003!

It's been a God send of info and opinion -- even when I am in the mood to strangle other posters, the entire government body and myself!

It's a big tent (not sure how the mods and the founders keep all of us monkeys and elephants and acrobats in place lol)

There is a real sanity. A kind of human love for a better and perhaps even perfect world. And it makes this a very special group.

Have been reading your posts from the very beginning. I remember debating you from time to time, posts you've made that caused firestorms, others that really pulled the community together - hell once I even bet you no one would contest the electoral votes in the 2004 election and lost (Boxer and Tubbs-Jones objected).

Wow, amazing how time flies. So much has happened over this 10 years, yet it feels like yesterday we were all keeping up on the 9-11 threads as it was happening. I remember your reaction to Bush's post 9-11 speech before Congress (it wasn't popular because as I recall you had positive things to say about it), and that thread I argued with you about the Philippines becoming another Vietnam (I was right about that one, it didn't), the thread you started opposing the Afghan war (I believe it was simply entitled "I oppose this war"), and so many more.

It's been a great 10 years for me and I hope for you as well. I've always valued your posts and commentary. I miss some of the members who aren't here anymore - even ones I disagreed with much of the time. I always look for posts by members who are consistent in their arguments and bring something insightful to the table, even when I don't always see eye to eye with them.

Anyway, I agree, DU has been a fantastic community and I don't know what I'd do without it. Here's hoping the next 10 years are more peaceful and bring more electoral triumphs our way.

I'll buy the beers at Bukowski (sadly, only virtually - this time).

I find my self comming here less and less. Usually feeling very confused and angery after I have read a few posts. We have lost something along the way. Enjoyed all your many wonderful posts and agreed with you on most. Thank you for helping to educated some of us.Good bye!
