And now I worry for Obama. In his speech it almost seemed he's developed a taste for killing "the evildoers"

7. Some/many of us don't but the government needs us to buy into that crap.
Playing to that fear enough people, maybe even just a minority will scream and yell so loud reason will be silenced like it has been in the past.

11. My guess is we've known where he was for a long time
and didn't kill him because he was a better intelligence asset alive. Some org. like wikileaks was probably going to go public with that info so the current admin. decided to kill Bin Laden rather than look bad.

12. Aw jeez Captain Buzzkill, just wave your fucking flag
Damn, this is why nobody likes people who believe in the Constitution. I mean, it's not like anyone has sworn to preserve, protect and defend it. And even if someone has, as soon as you get scared enough you can just forget all about that, because you're really, really scared. Or, you can just say that it was not intended to be a factual statement.

13. Yea, but he is dead, and for those he pained personally, they may now have
some closure. The firefighters seem to have a sense of that..and I am glad for them.

After all, bin Laden was the man who we were suppose to get..it's done now. At an insane price? Yes, but done.

manson, or jim jones.

*************

Did we elect people because we were told that you'd die from Jim Jones' followers any day now? Did we start wars because of Charles Manson? We gave up Constitutional rights like Habeas Corpus over Timothy McVeigh?

Do shut up!

This is the stupidest straw man ever!

Oh and it's "did they all win TOO" not "to".

(we might have done equally stupid things then if Dick Cheney had been in charge then)

31. Those people you mention:
Edited on Tue May-03-11 10:18 AM by moodforaday
to what extent did their crimes affect internal or foreign policies of the US government?

When you take off your shoes at the airport and get strip-searched or x-rayed, or when you find yourself on a no-fly list, is it because of Charles Manson? When you find yourself sent away to Gitmo for torture, is it Charles Manson's doing, too? When a library is required to report on your book-reading habits is it because of Jim Jones? When the FBI and who else is there intercepts your email or voice communications, do you thank the Columbine kids for that?

How many wars were started, how many people were bombed as a response to the violence the people you mention committed?

In other words, really, you'd have to try extremely hard to come up with a poorer analogy.

Do not think for a moment that Mike wanted us to turn the other cheek. If you think that, go read "Stupid White Men" where he basically puts Bin Laden in the same place as all other Rich Psychopaths who have the poor do their fighting for them.

"Department of 'Homeland' Security" which exists to strike fear and intimidation into the hearts and minds of Americans through such tactics as airport nudie scans and feel-ups, which they are told are necessary for their "safety." And Americans are all too willing to go along with that shit because they live in abject terror of scary Muslims like Osama. Yep, in many ways, he won.

Especially now in the wake of OBL's death when US airports will be on "high alert," much to the delight of Chertoff's and his investors at Rapiscan.

But Mike's right: who really "won?"

33. Who is a terrorist?
A terrorist is someone who terrorizes - threatens - the general population to advance their goals. I mean, this is the original meaning of the word (today it's more like, a terrorist is who the president says is a terrorist).

If you use that original definition, of course they've won, there's no need for a question mark at all. And ruling people by fear has become the accepted practice. Works like a charm.

will continue to be molested before they can board a commercial airliner. Looks like Chertoff and the Rapiscan folks will be raking it in for the forseeable future. Biggest pile of bullshit ever.

a bit of wet blanket here...Nothing like a

cloud for every silver lining..:eyes:

We didn't NEED to spend trillions

on needless wars...Iraq had nothing to do with OBL

and frankly, in the long term at least,

I think we can feel a little LESS fear with Bin Laden's death.

38. Osama got way more bang for his buck
than he'd EVER envisioned. At least, that's what I think. He'll never know just how big he actually did win. The sad thing is; with the report of this 9/11 attack's looming - sitting on W's desk well ahead of time...... N O T H I N G was done about it. Was Bush complicit or just complacent? Either way, he was an enabler - he and Darth.

how bad the country is. Looks like he's still free to do a few things in this country. Overall, we're still OK. We can, should, and will improve, but let's not go overboard here.
