In August 2010, American intelligence officials tracked Osama bin Laden to Abbottabad, Pakistan, a medium-sized city about an hour’s drive north of Islamabad, the capital.

1. How much intelligence has been gathered since August?
So, we have been spying on Usama since August. How much intel since then?
The obvious implication is that we have seen phase one of the terrorist round-up.

The people who were killed were all permanent residents there. In fact, that is how they found the place - by following the couriers who lived there.

5. Who knows? Maybe another high ranking leader?
The identities of the 20 dead have not been released yet, other than his son as far as I know.

6. I'm not sure that they really felt it was Bin Laden until very recently.
Maybe the last month or two. That's just what I've pieced together. Apparently, the house and the courier brothers were under investigation for a long time (years) but unraveling what went on in the house or who lived there look a lot longer.

7. All the while, intelligence was being amassed, and I suspect they waited, after confirmation, until
they had gathered further intelligence given their cover of secrecy.

Would they pass on a chance to spy on Usama just long enough to not create their own dry intel well/dead end?
