Is This DU General Discussion
or ALEX JONES CONSPIRACY Site? Why are people so quick to believe the worst of this President and his actions? To the point of trashing the integrity of United States Special Operations Navy SEALs of a crime?

Let's wait until everyone had been debriefed and the dust has settled. Give the benefit of doubt until proven guilty.

28. The world over here is infected with Obama Derangement
syndrome. What I find most peculiar about it is, the more spectacular the success of an Obama undertaking, the more the derangement. Makes sense though, if you're suspicious of the man. His position is that he can't win anything. If he doesn't get something, then he's a weak, gutless, turncoat, if he does, then there's always something wrong with what he did. There's simply no way to win.

21. I don't give a fig what the "mission" was
This was an extra-judicial killing on foreign soil. It had ZERO authorization from the host country. ZERO authorization from bin Laden's home country. No trial. No sentence.

Would you like it if some foreign gov't infiltrated YOUR country to kill THEIR enemy without telling you?

Seriously?

"Would you like it if some foreign gov't infiltrated YOUR country to kill THEIR enemy without telling you?"

If I lived in a different country who was harboring an admitted-and-proud most-wanted terrorist, and my country's intelligence service would have taken any notification and used it to further harbor the terrorist to save him, I would congratulate the country that took him out. I'm not sure where you get the idea that we are somehow obligated to give the host country information so they can use it to get the terrorist out of there.

I am quite happy you (and those with similar views) will never be running things.

37. Quite simply, the admin and Brennan could have said, "this is an evolving story...
and we prefer not to speculate."

Instead, they allowed Brennan to espouse unverified info and the U.S. press lapped it up. Brennan's press conference is a joke, he starts off making bold assertions about firefights and human shields and only starts equivocating upon further questioning. He knew what he was saying was not the whole truth when he said it. That is what propagandists do.

45. Why yes! Brannan's press conference IS on the Whitehouse website.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2011/05/02/press-briefing-press-secretary-jay-carney-and-assistant-president-homela

It was during this briefing (the 1st live briefing after the event) that he said this:

"Thinking about that from a visual perspective, here is bin Laden, who has been calling for these attacks, living in this million dollar-plus compound, living in an area that is far removed from the front, hiding behind women who were put in front of him as a shield."

And this:

"The concern was that bin Laden would oppose any type of capture operation. Indeed, he did. It was a firefight. He, therefore, was killed in that firefight and that’s when the remains were removed."

And this:

" Q You said that Osama bin Laden was actually involved in the firefight, and we had -- it has been reported that he reached for a weapon. Did he get his hand on a gun and did he fire himself?

MR. BRENNAN: He was engaged in a firefight with those that entered the area of the house he was in. And whether or not he got off any rounds, I quite frankly don’t know."

51. That's the point. I didn't hear Obama say one thing during his
announcement that he has to backtrack on. It was somebody else who said these things. And when they did, he immediately corrected it. Unlike the previous administration which let mischaracterizations linger for months and months.

25. JSOC was made into a hit team for the executive by Cheney and Rumsfeld.
They are not boy scouts. And since they aren't accountable to anyone, we don't know what they do or anything about its legality. That's not a theory. That's a fact.

This is a pretty good article by Jeremy Scahill who has been reporting on them for a long time.

Btw, JSOC is running one of the two drone operations into Pakistan. CIA runs the parallel one.

This OP is ironic because of all the units in the military, JSOC is probably the one most likely to engage in extra legal activity.
