JAILED MAN WEDS

May 4, 1900:Miss Ida P. Olsen, 22, called the office of Judge Vinsonhaler and expressed a desire to marry Thomas Thompsen. Asked where the groom might be found, she stated that he was in the county jail, charged with larceny. Sheriff Power was called in and ordered Thompsen brought over from the jail. Handcuffed and wearing his jail clothes, the young man was escorted to the courtroom, where, after the usual questions, bride and groom were united. After kissing his bride, Thompsen was taken back to his cell and Mrs. Thompsen left the county building.

Good luck to her and the Red Sox.

Still, I've often thought lifers were the best husbands: you always knew where they were, you got the maximum in attention via love notes with the minimum amount of effort, you never had to clean up after them or do their laundry or even cook them breakfast. And you got to play the tragic heroine of a star-crossed lovers story.
