April's Job Numbers

I am surprised there is not already a thread on this. Aren't jobs one of our top concerns?

^snip^

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The jobs recovery picked up speed in April, as business payrolls swelled and the unemployment rate rose as more people returned to the workforce.

The economy added 244,000 jobs in the month, the Labor Department reported Friday. That's up from the 221,000 jobs gained in March. Economists surveyed by CNNMoney were expecting a slight slowdown to a gain of just 185,000 jobs. Job growth has been strong since the beginning of the year, with 768,000 jobs added since January. And Friday's report also showed that 46,000 more jobs were added in February and March than previously thought.

3. Good, but the number of unemployed also increased...
The claim I heard was that formerly discouraged workers have become active in searching for a job and that is why the unemployment numbers have increased.

The fact is that we need dramatic measures to get things going and the Republicans and their corporate allies are doing everything in their power to keep the economic situation negative in hopes of using it against President Obama and the Dems in the next election. They are economic saboteurs.

4. Well, that number has a lot of fudge in it
Today's NFP of 244K is great... until you exclude the 62K from McDonalds hirings, and 175K from the Birth Death Adjustment, and end up with.... +7K jobs.

6. the household survey showed a loss of 190,000 jobs..
which is why the unemployment rate surged.

I think few people here really care about the dire state of our economy and our surging poverty levels. Most just want to think happy thoughts and move on.
