SNIP - GREENSBORO — At Thursday’s public hearing on the county budget a number of familiar faces from arts and social programs showed up, as they do every year, to petition the Guilford County Board of Commissioners to preserve their funding. But a new element made the biggest stir — a conservative group that will be holding its own event to talk about how to dramatically slash the budget.
Conservatives for Guilford County, a tea-party-affiliated group, will hold its presentation in the commissioners’ own chamber on May 16 — and a majority of the commissioners have agreed to attend.
But Alston said he didn’t consider the group to be informed about county finances and said their suggestions — which he called “irresponsible” and “slash and burn” — don’t interest him. He also said the group isn’t racially diverse, claiming he had yet to see a black member of the group.
“Therefore, my constituents are left out,” Alston said.
THANK YOU, MR. ALSTON :headbang:
