Union Workers Have Better Health Care and Pensions
http://www.aflcio.org/joinaunion/why/uniondifference/uniondiff6.cfm

Union workers are more likely than their nonunion counterparts to be covered by health insurance, and to receive pension benefits and paid sick leave, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. In March 2010, 84 percent of union workers were covered by health insurance through their jobs, compared with only 55 percent of nonunion workers.

As the chart below illustrates, 87 percent of union workers participate in pension plans versus 49 percent of nonunion workers ...

3. Sarcasm noted, but alas it's all too real.
We chuckle but I swear this country is positively infested with people who feel just that way...and will be glad to tell you so.

7. I know - it's scary
I even find that my own brother, a life long Dem and one time Teamster, thinks that maybe the unions have had their time and the times are changing. :wow: I was dumbfounded (for a moment) until I reminded him all of the good that the unions have done and if their time is done, who will stand up to the corporations and businesses? He agreed yet didn't seem convinced. The propaganda is getting to even seemingly rational people.

8. Complacency. I've seen worse yet
Some fellow union co-workers who complain about capital running roughshod over labor...say, matter of factly, that if they were in their position they'd do the same. I really ripped into them and said I wouldn't turn sociopath, and to think through what they said. Very much like your brother, they sort of saw the point but didn't really seem convinced. I Can't see the logic.

5. That fear mongering BS was debunked last year. Why keep pushing it?
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2010/jun/10/chain-email/w-2-tax-forms-hr-3590-health-insurance-pay-taxes/

Starting in 2011, "you will be required to pay taxes" on "the value of whatever health insurance you are given by the company."

Chain e-mail on Thursday, June 10th, 2010 in a chain e-mail

<snip>We looked up the Kiplinger letter and couldn't help noticing that the article states the following: "A requirement that businesses include the value of the health care benefits they provide to employees on W-2s, beginning with W-2s for 2011. The amount reported is not considered taxable income."

Got that? "Not considered taxable income."

So the e-mail's own evidence refutes its premise.

The e-mail is correct that employers will have to let employees know how much their health insurance costs the employer. But the e-mail's main point -- and the fact that we're checking here -- is that you will be taxed on your health insurance. That is not only wrong, but refuted by its own reference. Assuming the e-mail's author read that Kiplinger entry, we can only conclude that this is a deliberate attempt to upset and mislead voters. This sort of fear mongering rates a Pants on Fire.
