Hacker Takes Down Anonymous Message Boards
http://www.securitynewsdaily.com/hacker-takes-down-anonymous-message-boards-0768/

Armed with courage and the arrogance of youth, a teenage hacker has taken over the message boards belonging to the anti-censorship hacking collective known as Anonymous.

In the past year, the AnonOps message boards have been the jumping-off point for several of Anonymous' most high-profile hacking campaigns, including attacks on government websites in Egypt, Iran, New Zealand and Tunisia, as well as against Sony, Bank of America, numerous WikiLeaks detractors and the hateful Westboro Baptist Church.

Now, however, the tables have been turned.

A letter on AnonOps.in, the group's temporarily official channel, reads: "We would STRONGLY ADVISE all users to STAY AWAY from AnonOps.net and AnonOps.ru and they should be considered COMPROMISED. Using or connecting to any service on those addresses may put your computer, and by extension your person, at risk."

2. No one went there anyway.

They hadn't updated much in recent weeks.

By the way, if you're really interested in observing how they work, your best bet is to load up an IRC client and lurk their chats.

I wonder if this hacker feels a certain sense of invulnerability that he may not deserve.

Perhaps he thinks he's above the last guy who spat in the face of Anonymous, but arrogance always precedes the fall. In reply to another poster here, "yes". With the internet integrated into social and governance interests the world has achieved a PS3 virtual realm. Consider how the world at large bowed to Assange when he disclosed that Anonymous held information capable of bringing down entire empires.

To refresh what this hacker must already know, here's what happened to one "expert' who took on Anonymous:

Security researcher feels the wrath of Anonymous
Hacktivists Anonymous take down the security expert who threatened to reveal their identity

Wikileaks defenders Anonymous are firing both barrels at a security researcher who promised to name people in the group.
Aaron Barr vowed he’d expose organizers of the online activist group Anonymous next week, but in response Anonymous hacked his Twitter account, broke into his company network and posted more than 44,000 of the company’s e-mails.They also posted his home address, phone number and Social Security number on his Twitter page.

Barr, the CEO of HBGary Federal, said in an interview with the Financial Times over the weekend that he’d expose the leaders of the hacktivist group Anonymous next week at a conference in San Francisco, where he is scheduled to speak at the Security B-Sides event.

Since that story ran, Anonymous has broken into HBGary Federal’s network where it says it found Barr’s research on the group, and, in a press release, declared it to be “woefully inaccurate.”

As Anonymous always says in their closing, I think this hacker that attacked their site can "expect them".

9. I would think so
I see that Barr stepped down shortly after that article was published because of all the embarrassment that was caused to HBGary. I wouldn't mess with Anonymous.

14. Can a disgruntled former administrator truly be considered a hacker?
"Anonymous' message boards have been hijacked by a disgruntled former administrator."

I imagine a former administrator would have inside knowledge to access the board or server without any need to hack.
