Thousands of birthers arrested, Orly Taitz charged with conspiracy

The arrests of thousands of people took place over the weekend as the FBI and various police departments rounded up scores of “birthers” on charges of conspiracy and for having alleged ties with the al Qaeda terrorist group.

Robert S. Mueller, FBI director, said the bureau had been working on this case for months and that this was just the start of a series of arrests. He declined to indicate exactly how many were or will be arrested. The FBI was acting on a tip sent to one of its field offices.

“One of our field agents received an email from his uncle stating that these birthers were linked to al Qaeda and were working closely with followers of Osama bin Laden,” Mueller said. “Rather than verifying any of the information or doing a quick Google search, this agent assumed the information must be real. He immediately forwarded it to everyone he knows. They sent it to everyone they know and so on. The fact that so many people have seen this email means it must be right.”

Can anyone put themselves in his shoes and explain what happened to him, from his point of view?

Truly curious.

I remember years ago on his HBO show he dedicated a program to discussing affirmative action and was obviously against it. He probably got more conservative with age and perhaps also resented the preponderance of left-leaning views in the entertainment industry and 'doubled down' on his conservatism as a means of protest.

Or maybe he just saw an opportunity to work for Fox and get $$ and exposure that way.

Why is it hard? Because despite his flaws, I give him credit for being a major part of my own politcal awakening. I really, really loved the funnier parts of Dennis Miller: Live back in the day, which I hold as some of the funniest in politcal television history. Watching it every weekend in high school was the ritual that The Daily Show became between '01 and '04. Ironically, Dennis Miller: Live was one of the first places I ever encountered Jon Stewart, who was interviewed for the DM: L episode on smoking, back in '95 or '96.

My $.02: Like others here have noted, in his hey day, (read: sane day) Dennis Miller had an obvious conservative streak even at his most "liberal." I think that's how he was trying to maintain his "credibility" with his audience, by being willing to smack around the left when necessary. But still, I found his even bigger smackage of the right, and especially the far right, to be sincere, especially on "no brainer" issues, (gay rights, abortion rights, the baseless neocon attacks on Clinton) so I really think that part of his left...ish ideology was real. What happened?

I think he just utterly lost his shit after 9/11. All the internalized xenophobia, racism, Islamophobia came right out, and he exposed himself as another sad, angry white guy scared of the Other and the future.

Also--he was an aging comedian who wanted to take one last stab at cashing in on whatever was left of his fame, and decided to do it by what was "selling" last decade, at least for a while (ie; neoconservatism and bigotry.)

Dennis Miller was funny when Rick Overton was writing for him. After Rick finally couldn't take it anymore, Dennis' humor went flying away with him.”

Overton won an Emmy writing for Dennis back in the nineties.

They are the worst things to come out of the tragedy of 9/11. These jingoistic, racist pricks have no shame. I knew Dennis Miller wasn't a liberal when he interviewed Ed Asner and got the smack down on the death penalty. But then, after 9/11, Dennis Miller went completely balls off the rocker. The fear generated by that 0/11 triggered some nasty stuff within him. I still think he's a libertarian, but there's a lot more money in being a 9/11 republican, so that's where he's at.

9/11 was a collossal republican failure. They dropped the ball on terrorism big time. Yet instead of villifying their failure, they double down on the crazy. Their John Wayne response to it was equally terrible and we are still living with those consequences today (illegal wars, patriot act, homeland security). It's going to take several more years for this shit to end, but little by little, it will end.

I hope the OP is not the author of this turd, because the author a talentless hack.
