Question for serving military and recent vets

What's your take on college grads joining the military? Officer? Enlisted? Good idea these days (as opposed to during the Bush years)? Which service? What's your sense of college grads turning to the military in this job market?

Words I heard upon arrival at MCRD in 1961. Truer words were never spoken.

My neighbor signed up in college as a medical student and really enjoyed his time in the Army (I think) following school. That being said he was enlisted as a captain and got to learn some really fascinating battlefield medicine. A captain is a high enough rank that you aren't going to be stuck doing a bunch of useless shit. If you enlist with a not really in demand degree as a Lieutenant you could find yourself doing work not related to your degree and basically being stuck.

It's a tough call, personally I wouldn't trust a word from a recruiter and would try to find someone in the same degree field who's done it to get an honest opinion.
