Osama bin Laden Mission Agreed in Secret 10 Years Ago by US and Pakistan
Source: The Guardian

The US and Pakistan struck a secret deal almost a decade ago permitting a US operation against Osama bin Laden on Pakistani soil similar to last week's raid that killed the al-Qaida leader, the Guardian has learned.

The deal was struck between the military leader General Pervez Musharraf and President George Bush after Bin Laden escaped US forces in the mountains of Tora Bora in late 2001, according to serving and retired Pakistani and US officials.

Under its terms, Pakistan would allow US forces to conduct a unilateral raid inside Pakistan in search of Bin Laden, his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, and the al-Qaida No3. Afterwards, both sides agreed, Pakistan would vociferously protest the incursion.

"There was an agreement between Bush and Musharraf that if we knew where Osama was, we were going to come and get him," said a former senior US official with knowledge of counterterrorism operations. "The Pakistanis would put up a hue and cry, but they wouldn't stop us."

1. So, the question arises: "What took you guys so long?"
Could there possibly have been other parties to that deal that might have delayed things, a bit?

2. To me, the question is
how long will it take for the US to re-install Musharaff?
The outlines of the real story are in the article:

Bush Co propped up Pakistan's military dictator, Musharaff
( I remember reading that early on in the Bush admin. we were giving Musharaff 10 million a month, no audit)
Musharaff in exchange gave the US open access to Pakistan
Musharaff is "now running an opposition party from exile in London"
and the current Pakistani government is describing China as "a source of inspiration for the people of Pakistan".

Lining up with Russia or China is like having a giant sign on your country's back: " Invade me".

3. Who is the source?
It either is a major overreach to give Bush credit for this, or, it begs the question why Bush didn't go in and get the job done.

4. Yeah - Right!!!!!!.......
This sounds made up to me in order to take the spotlight away from Obama and lay the credit on BushCo.

I don't believe this one bit.

This is just take a situation like this raid and create a story around it in order to give credit to BushCo.

And we're supposed to believe this?

A deal between Musharraf and Bush?

Seems to me this is a made up story to protect both of these guys - give them cover.

I wonder what the real deal was that they struck?

Probably for Pakistan to shelter OBL so that BushCo could keep the American public in fear and trot the guy out whenever they needed him - like for an election.

How convenient.

7. I agree and all valid quesitons. One thing this story does, if true
is removes the idea that we violated sovereignty.

5. Yeah, right.
Musharraf knew where Bin Laden was. Why did Bush not take him out if he had permission?

Stinks.
