1. Here in Cleveland, it's 2 bucks to get in...
Mrs WCGreen was strongly urged to go to this hootenanny tomorrow as a paid day.

19. I'm afraid that Bill Cosby believes that if he were born in the ghetto
today, his life would have the same successful arc.

At least my father was sincere enough to realize that times have changed and the success he saw in his time would be hard to replicate.

24. It's software.
These flim-flammers came through our town a few months back.

The morning session is the part where you hear all the speakers for a few minutes each. Then the afternoon session is hard core sales pressure to buy useless predictive software from hucksters who promise them stock market riches.

It's a big scam.

40. Wow,
There was a time (many years ago) when I actually respected Colin Powell, and now he's involved in get rich quick scams.

Maybe some of these people are has beens who need the money so, while I condemn their actions, I can comprehend their motivations.

But Laura Bush? She needs to rip off gullible people?

Steve Freaking Forbes? He needs to do this?

Are there real "Dr. Evils" in this world who do evil simply for the love of evil?

23. In Seattle, we have a somewhat different set of speakers
Someone sent me this today and I fully expected the link to be from the Onion or a Rickroll.

Instead, it led here and had the following info:
http://www.keyarena.com/default.asp?keyarena=18&objId=618

The Get Motivated Seminar featuring America’s Mayor, Rudy Giuliani; World Famous Soldier-Statesman, General Colin Powell and America’s Favorite Comedian, Bill Cosby is coming to the KeyArena at the Seattle Center. This day-long presentation will take place on Tuesday, June 7th, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Additional speakers will include Laura Bush, Former First Lady; Dan Rather, Award-Winning Journalist; Celebrated Four-Star General, General Stanley McChrystal; Hall of Fame Quarterback, Joe Montana and Brian Tracy, America’s Top Authority on Selling plus other renowned teachers and motivators.

Among the speakers' topics will be “Take Charge Leadership” (Powell); “The Tenacity to Persevere: How to Make it Through Any Crisis” (Giuliani); “How to Lead Your Team to Victory” (Montana); “Keys to Stability in Uncertain Times” (Bush).

An entire office of people can attend this seminar for a day of training, inspiration and motivation that they will never forget!

Some wild irony in the topic titles, or a disconnect, or both.

Went to the sponsoring site and saw this:
https://www.getmotivated.com/city.aspx?a=5306

$1.95 per person

That would be a no for me.

29. Ha! I did a little rearch into how the SCAM works and for those who are interested...
...you can find much more HERE or, basically, all of the people you see there are paid regular speaking fees- they aren't even affiliated with the company- they're just taking the money for speaking at "an" event.

At some point in the "show", several different non-celebrity pitchmen come in and try to sell very expensive investing software, which can run upwards of $3k per person, per purchase.

And, apparently they get that much back from the suckers because the speaker's fees alone are astronomical. In the article I link above has more details- it is very interesting!

36. They are actually there! In person. You can even find quite a bit of footage on YouTube.
They clean up apparently, I mean clean up bigtime to be able to afford those speakers although, possibly, they get a discount for hiring them for several speaking engagements over a short period of time.

Sort of like if you paid 3 big name bands to play a show and then sold your own nasty overpriced music instruction DVD's during the intermission between the short sets.

38. He probably isn't actually giving a business seminar- he's paid to just tell his story and...
...anything inspirational, that sort of thing. It doesn't even have to do with business. After he and the others speak, and I bet they can speak about almost anything they want, then the pitchmen come on and do the hard sell- and those are all folks who work for the production company who puts on the show, not the "guests" themselves.

It's the pitchmen after/between them who make the big plays to part suckers from their money.
