A comment from a conservative in my local paper:
In my local paper, we have a section called 'Sound Off' where people can call in, or email, their comments about current events on the local, state and/or national level. This one in tuesday's paper caught my attention:

"I would suggest to the so-called conservatives in Washington that they leave Medicare and Social Security alone if they want my vote in the next election. You might start by not paying benefits to those who have never paid a cent into the Social Security system, such as illegal aliens. I've paid Social Security taxes since 1963. Not all retirees are able to draw a big government or union pension. We depend on our monthly Social Security check, however meager it may be. I would suggest that budget cuts be made in other areas such as the space program cluttering up outer space with junk and also try eliminating unnecessary, high-paying government positions. How about so many useless government grants. I could go on and on. Now that's real conservatism. Anybody agree?"

I can't provide a link, as the online version is for subscribers only. I have noticed a lot of people starting to 'wake up' a little over the past 6 months or so. I had comments published 3 or 4 weeks in a row after someone had suggested calling Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander in regards to getting a a cost of living increase for Social Security and Disablility recipients. I told them they would be wasting their time because it was republicans who wanted to dismantle the programs anyways. It's tough living in the nutsack of the bible belt here, but I try to get through to as many as I can.

Peace,

Ghost

1. How can he be so right and so wrong at the same time?
"Illegal aliens" pay plenty into Social Security and almost never collect.

2. Don't be fooled
While they may agree on the principle of having things like Social Security and Medicare (I promise you the only reason they do is because they are the beneficiaries of said programs), don't think that they will share any opinions on how to properly run the country beyond that. I mean, just look at his suggestions for where to cut, no mention of military at all, no mention of tax increases.

4. i think this is a common theme.

Just because he paid into SS since 1963, he thinks it unfair that the tax=dodging Republicon Billionaire Puppetmasters plan to steal his SS money...What a socialist...

8. He is still an uninformed idiot.
He "could go on and on" but somehow I doubt he would ever get to the issues of military spending and tax revenues. BTW, illegals very often DO pay into Social Security but then never collect, to the tune of about $9 billion a year by the most recent estimate.

9. I was talking with my teabagger aunt a couple of months ago and she said "I hope I get a cost-of-

living increase on my social security this year". Most of them are in the dark about the attack on SS and Medicare and don't know about Paul Ryan or his plans. They just want the black man out of the whitehouse, the Mexicans deported back to Mexico (and they're all Mexicans, Jesus this and Founding Fathers that BTW), etc etc.

12. you can't get ss benefits unless you paid in, or your spouse/guardian did.
the guy is probably thinking of ssi, which isn't funded by social security taxes.

14. That's not really a con or neo-con perspective. In fact I agree with every word of it.
"real conservativism" was a dead giveaway.
Written by a progressive. They just substituted nasa with the dod.
