Democrats fear GOP will race to redistrict before (WI) recall elections
http://host.madison.com/ct/news/local/crime_and_courts/blog/article_3b40234e-7c0a-11e0-9686-001cc4c03286.html

In coming weeks state Republicans hope to legalize concealed weapons, pass a voter ID bill, expand the use of school vouchers and further deregulate the telecommunications industry. Democrats also fear they’ll turn to redistricting, moving up the statutory schedule so they can lock in electoral gains from last year’s election before recall efforts give Democrats a chance to pry control of the state Senate from GOP hands.

“There’s every indication that the Republicans are moving their agenda forward rapidly, and it could be with recalls on the horizon they would want to move redistricting forward in advance of the traditional schedule,” says Senate Minority Leader Mark Miller, D-Monona.

And Democrats would be shut out of the process, he says. Republicans have denied them the funds to hire attorneys to represent them on redistricting issues, while Republicans announced their intent to hire a redistricting legal team in January.

He says he has no evidence that the Republicans plan to accelerate the process other than their blatant efforts to ram other conservative agenda items through the Legislature while Democrats watch helplessly from the sidelines.

So it's definitely not officially happening at this point but based on what we are seeing here, it's an educated guess.

3. So how do the Dems plan to fight back?
Or will they continue to "watch helplessly?"

7. I was quoting the article, as you know, but was just wondering what if any plan
...was afoot to counter this latest blatant anti-democracy move from Wisconsin's GOP?

5. Shouldn't a recall election have to be with the original pool
of voters as the recall petitions were signed by people from the original pool of voters so it stands to reason that those are the people who should be allowed to vote in it.

6. Why yes, it should.
That is unless you're a lying POS GOP asshole who will likely lose said recall election in which case the correct way to handle it would be to slam in redistricting.

We'll see.

8. WI people need to use the courts to slow this stuff down. By that I
mean file law suits about everything they try. The rethug party is using every thing they can to make President Obama fail. Take a lesson from them but be careful not to do anything to alienate the voters. The rethugs have done this with the HCR let us do this with redistricting and voter ID and any other things we need to hold off until we can turn the congress.
