'Tax lady' Roni Deutch closes law firm, says she's broke
Source: Sacramento Bee

Embattled tax attorney Roni Deutch Thursday said she will close her law firm of 20 years and surrender her license to practice law.

... Asked what she would do next, Deutch responded, "cry."

In August 2010, then-Attorney General Jerry Brown filed suit against Deutch accusing her of cheating her clients out of $34 million.

A Sacramento Superior Court judge in April froze her assets. Deutch, whose firm took in $25 million a year, was accused by the state of destroying millions of pages of documents; failing to pay about $435,000 in refunds to clients and diverting assets to family, friends and creditors in violation of court orders. State Attorney General Kamala Harris, in court filings, accused Deutch of violating the court's orders "almost before they came off the printer," embarking on a massive shredding operation that claimed as many as 2.7 million documents by the end of March.

1. Poor Roni, maybe I'll take up a collection for her.
Then I will keep the money, just like she did.

6. Government interference, I tell ya...
Here's a hard workin' empremanure pullin' herself up by her own bootstraps, and the durn government stomps in and ruins the whole thing. Boy, if we just didn't have all a them regulations; it discourages individual effort, hard work and the American enterprise system.

18. rich people didn't use her
They have real tax attorneys.

The vast majority of her clients are average people with a failed small business who ended up deep in debt and owing thousands in taxes they have no way to pay or the unemployed who collected unemployment benefits without getting a job in time to accru the tax money owed on those benefits or never got a job at all by the time the tax was owed and got stuck with a huge tax burden they have no way to pay or people who had no idea a mistake was made by the IRS on their taxes and they are then informed they owe thousands they had no idea they owed and don't have the money to pay it, etc.

10. Well, Roni, guess you'll be seeing how the rest of us live pretty soon.
Good luck on finding a job.

Of course, she's still in big trouble. Judges aren't amused at people that violate their orders and destroy evidence.

13. She needs to keep that law license
She's just the kind of person Orly Taitz would hire, but that'll never happen if she doesn't have her law license.

19. she can't keep it
Apparently, she's giving it up voluntarily so that she has a better chance of getting it back later. The bar looks more favorably on those who give up their license voluntarily then those they have to take it from when it comes to a possibility of getting it back.

Although I'm highly skeptical that she actually IS giving it up voluntarily seeing as she's a scamming liar and the bar can't say anything about it.

Even if she somehow was able to keep her license, she'll never get a job as an attorney again. Not that she needs to... no doubt in my mind she's got millions and millions hidden away.
