High School Student Challenges Bachmann to Debate
Edited on Fri May-13-11 11:09 AM by geardaddy
From the City Pages: http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/2011/05/is_michele_bachmann_smarter_than_a_high_school_sophomore.php

Is Michele Bachmann smarter than a high school sophomore?

Michele Bachmann is famously reluctant to put herself in positions where she might have to talk to someone who disagrees with her.

But Jesus God do we hope she makes an exception in this instance.

Amy Myers, a high school sophomore from Cherry Valley, New Jersey, has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging the Minnesota Representative to a debate and public test on the constitution, U.S. history, and civics.

Myers says Bachmann's frequent errors, misstatements and distortions aren't just bad for civic discourse -- they're bad for women.

"Though politically expedient, incorrect comments cast a shadow on your person and by unfortunate proxy, both your supporters and detractors alike often generalize this shadow to women as a whole," Myers writes.

So to show that Bachmann isn't a great representative of her gender's intellectual capacity, Myers proposes a battle of wits.

This seems like a terrific idea. The public interest is there. Box office and pay-per-view revenue would be enormous. Some enterprising promoter needs to start putting this together STAT.

The actual letter from the student to Bachmann at the link.

9. This would be awesome on pay-per-view
Let the public vote on the winner with the proceeds going to the kid's college fund. (Or theoretically a charity of Bachmann's choice, but that's kinda moot.)

Judging from nothing more than the quality of the young woman's letter, Ms. Myers would brutally stomp down Batshit Bachmann.

I'd pay $5 to see it on pay-per-view.

28. It's lose-lose for Bachmann.
If she declines, the narrative is that she was afraid to debate a high school student.
If she accepts and loses, she lost to a high school student.
If she accepts and wins, no one cares.

This is great!

35. Just a point on Cherry Hill/Cherry Valley
This wonderful young lady's letter says she is from Cherry Hill, NJ at the link but the post above says Cherry Valley, NJ.

Cherry Hill Township is in Camden County in South Jersey.

Cherry Valley is a section of Princeton Township in Mercer County in Central Jersey.

PS Bachmann will NEVER accede to the young Ms. Myers' request. Bachmann has publicly proven herself to be a fool on many occasions and will undoubtedly continue to do so since she has little choice in the matter. But she isn't fool enough to be publicly humiliated by a high school student in a debate that would certainly prove that fact beyond any shadow of a doubt.

Good for you Amy. Your teachers, the New Jersey public education system, and your parents are, I'm sure, very proud of you. You're the type of young person this nation sorely needs.

44. She would go into right wing radio talk show host mode and cheat
Her statements will likely be devoid of truth and substance, which won't matter to people who think she's some sort of uber conservative. They don't deal in truth - they trade in mindless platitudes, slogans and lies.

She would get some soundbites in that would get echoed by the right's echo chamber. To thinking people, I'm certain it will be clear thar this hs sophomore would wipe the floor with her. To the teabaggers, she would cause them to have a spontaneous collective orgasm.

My hope is President Obama will have the coattails during his reelection campaign to get some of these traitors out of office, and gain back the majority in the house for dems and across the states. It's going to take years to undo their reckless legislation.
