Far Right Rioters In Greece Attack Immigrants.

ATHENS, Greece — Greek government officials are appealing for calm after three days of racist attacks on dark-skinned foreigners in central Athens, sparked by a fatal mugging.

The public order minister, Christos Papoutsis, says there is a "very high risk of hate crimes."

At a press conference, victims of racist attacks described how they were chased and beaten by rampaging youths after Tuesday's unsolved murder, which reports blamed on migrants.

Local residents and far-right thugs have held two violent protests, and Greece's Pakistani community says more than 100 immigrants were attacked on Thursday.

Community spokesman Irfan Tamur Mohammad said Friday that 17 migrants have been hospitalized and dozens of immigrant-owned shops attacked or looted, while police allegedly did little to stop the violence.
