Time to start boycotting public places that show Fox News
I live in the midst of the liberal enclaves of Los Angeles and despite this, Despite this, more often than not when I walk into a restaurant, if there isn't sports, it's Fox News. It's the same with banks, doctor's offices, lobbies of businesses etc. Let's all start taking action. Politely inform the manager/owner of whoever that you will not patronize an establishment that insists on exposing people to Fox's propaganda and lies.

If this is the norm in liberal Los Angeles, it's probably a lot worse in other parts of the country. Anyone who insists on showing Fox News to the public, who have no choice in what's on TV doesn't deserve my business or the patronage of any sane American.

1. I've been going to a Credit Union Service Center that played Fox News.
I complained and they changed it to CNN. For the last 4 months, it has been on CNN every time I've stopped by.

5. Businesses have various reasons for putting Fox on
Edited on Fri May-13-11 02:00 PM by RZM
Certainly the political beliefs of the owners/managers is one, though I imagine in other cases it's just about the ratings. If you're taking in a random sample of people, you're probably going to host more Fox viewers than Spike or Lifetime viewers.

9. Most of us have been doing this for years.
Everywhere I go has switched to CNN. If the remote is anywhere public, I change it to HGTV or MSNBC.

This was in a San Francisco suburb too.

12. Nah.
If you're so offended, just ask them to change the channel.

Or, buy one of those little gizmos that you can use to turn the TV off.

30. I went even further today
I was at a small hotel that had a breakfast room. The tube was on, no one seemed to be paying attention, so I asked if anyone would mind if I turned it off. Blessed silence ensued. I don't understand why so many places have televisions on all the time anyway.

(I actually don't know if it was Fox or not: it was still annoying)

17. Excellent.
I've walked out of restaurants that refuse to shut that crap off.

This is how Fox can claim such huge ratings--they gave tvs to a lot of businesses and made deals with others with the command that they keep it on the psycho channel. If they can understand how many people find anti-American propaganda repulsive, they will soon listen or lose business.

20. I request that it be changed
If they won't, I leave.

My dentist has TV for each patient. It was tuned to Fox. He asked if I would like the channel changed. I replied "Yes - I am a Democrat and have a severe allergic reaction to Fox." He laughed and the hygienist gave a little cheer. I had it changed to MSNBC.

at a local restaurant to change the channel. My exact words were "Do you mind changing the channel on that television? If I have to sit here and watch FOX News I'll stab my eyeball out with one of your forks!" She laughed and said sure!

23. Not necessarily saying it's the norm
but in my area the Berman, Sherman, Waxman axis where there hasn't been a serious congressional race in the 30 years I've lived here, Fox is quite prevalent considering Sherman's race was the closest in 2010 winning by only 31%. I see Fox more than CNN or MSNBC combined.

25. Excellent idea!
And it isn't just because Fox spews out donkey feces all day, I can ignore that. I will object on my own behalf, but the bigger threat is to society at large. Like having a poisonous snake under the couch, I want to keep others from being bitten; especially those who don't have access to the actual news. Sorry, I think I mixed a couple of metaphors.

29. Oh blessed irony...

"If this is the norm in liberal Los Angeles, it's probably a lot worse in other parts of the country. Anyone who insists on showing Fox News to the public, who have no choice in what's on TV doesn't deserve my business or the patronage of any sane American.

The public, who have no choice in what's on TV...

And if someone goes into the place of business and insists that the channel be changed, that person is ALSO taking away someone else's choice.

Maybe 50% of the people who patronize those businesses would choose Fox News. I wouldn't, but that's beside the point.

Maybe that 50% want to watch Fox News. But people who think they have the right and "duty" to save the world take that choice away from them.

That's if the place of business gives in to the threat. I would hope it wouldn't, but the economy these days is so bad that unfortunately many business owners probably feel like they have no choice.

Anyway, everybody seems to like Freedom of Speech as long as it's speech they agree with.

34. The one mechanic I trust shows it.
After years of looking for someone I can trust to work on my old car, he can run Osama porn stash tapes for all I care.
Actually, I never go in the waiting room, purposely, so, problem solved there.
Thought about joking with him about changing the channel, but I'm not screwing up this good thing between he and my car.
The last time I was there he repaired it without charge.
