Donate food to the postal service letter carriers "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive tomorrow, May 14th.

You can help “Stamp Out Hunger” this weekend by joining with the Letter Carriers (NALC) in the largest one-day food drive in the nation. NALC asks that you collect canned goods and dry food, such as tuna, canned meat, soups, pasta, rice and cereal, and leave them in a bag or box by your mailbox on Saturday, May 14. Your letter carriers will pick them up as they deliver your mail. NALC members will deliver the goods to local food banks, pantries and shelters to help needy families in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states and U.S. jurisdictions.

This is NALC’s 19th annual food drive, held on the second Saturday in May. National and local NALC food drive coordinators hope to expand on last year’s record of 77.1 million pounds of donations collected along postal routes. Over the past 18 years, NALC members have collected and donated more than 1 billion pounds of food to help feed hungry Americans.

Demands for food assistance have reached record levels. More than 50 million people—including 17.2 million children—live in households that are hungry or at risk of hunger, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. That’s a 30 percent increase in one year and represents more than one in seven households in the country (14.6 percent).

Postal employees and rural letter carriers are assisting in the effort, as are members of other unions and thousands of volunteers. More information about the drive is available at HelpStampOutHunger.com.

7. Contact this person to see if there is an alternative way to contribute to the food drive.

Perhaps they can do volunteer pick-ups.

Questions regarding the food drive should be directed to Linda Giordano by mail at NALC Headquarters, by email to giordano@nalc.org, or by phone at (202) 662-2489.

16. Maybe she'll put a note in your mailbox
telling you to go to the Post Office on Thursdays, between 11:30 am and 11:35 am to pick up your mail. If you can't be there at the specified time, it will be thrown out.

Now that's worth laughing over!

25. I have three bags ready to go (kick!)
I have canned fruit, veggies, beans (lots of beans), peanut butter, rice, canned chicken. I usually do a bunch of tuna, but I just can't/won't this year.

Yeah, yeah...DU's biggest jackwagon vegan buys meat once a year. So what.

27. I like to buy stuff kids enjoy
Big plastic jar of Ragu with a box of choo choo wheel macaroni. Big box of Mac N's Cheese. Taco Hamburger Helper, etc. My mailguy will only take 1 bag. Last year he left the other bags sitting on my porch & I had to drive them to foodbank. Good thing it was on my way to work.
