HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett is scheduled to undergo back surgery Monday in Pittsburgh, his office said.

Corbett's operation at Allegheny General Hospital is part of his treatment for spinal stenosis. He will spend a day or two in the hospital, but expects to return to Harrisburg by the end of next week, his office said Friday.

While Corbett, 61, is under anesthesia, Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley will serve as acting governor.

Spinal stenosis, most commonly caused by aging, is a narrowing of the spinal canal that can lead to persistent pain and decreased physical activity.

The surgery is being performed by Dr. Mark A. Fye, an orthopedic spinal specialist, and Dr. Patrick J. DeMeo, an orthopedic surgeon. Updates on the operation and Corbett's condition will be provided at a news briefing following the surgery.

1. If it was "routine", they would have done it at Harrisburg or Hershey hospitals.
Besides, how can you operate on a spine that isn't there? He's owned by big business, the fracking companies in particular.

2. Bone implant?
:P

aside: Did you know? There is a third Manning brother, Cooper. Spinal stenosis is what kept him from achieving gridiron greatness alongside his brothers Eli and Peyton, and father Archie.

3. I certainly hope nothing goes wrong
I know someone who went in for spinal surgery and came out a quadriplegic.

Should that fate befall Gov. Corbett, he will wake up to find that he cut funding for the very programs he'd need, such as independent living (the Philly CIL just laid off nearly half its staff).

6. How ironic. Governor Gashole cut insurance for 41,000 Pennsylvanians,
who all now get to foot the bill for his back surgery.

Talk about a hypocrite.
