Why isn't botox a controlled substance?
Edited on Sun May-15-11 08:42 AM by howard112211
My understanding is that it is an extremely potent poison. Why isn't it regulated in a similar way as morphine? Only doctors can acquire it, administer it, etc.

We certainly don't need incompetent idiots buying it off the internet and injecting it into their kids.

1. I've also read that Botox migrates to the brain stem and effects are cumulative
Doesn't a powerful poison accumulating in the brain stem of users qualify this as a dangerous substance? It's used by vain people to get rid of WRINKLES! What medical benefit does Botox have? Why is cannabis, with myriad medical benefits and uses, a Schedule I drug and Botox not?

Just one more screwed up DEA position in the ridiculous "War on Drugs" that should be, for the sake of honesty and clarity be renamed to the "War on Drugs We Choose to Declare War On While Inexplicably Permitting the Use of Far More Dangerous Drugs".

Or the acronym WoDWCtDWOWIPtUoFMDD for the sake of brevity. (Makes as much or more sense as the name they're using now)

5. The medical benefit Botox has
http://www.botoxmedical.com/MedicalUses.aspx

It is used mostly for treating spasms--specifically, neck and eyelid spasms.

I don't know why cannabis is schedule I, but there are justifiable medical reasons for botox. (Oh...and the cosmetic uses keep vain people from undergoing surgery to get rid of their wrinkles--Botox has really cut down on the number of facelifts performed.

Now...the shit I can't figure out is Latisse--which grows eyelashes. This is a hundred bucks a month, has side effects, and does exactly the same thing as a $10 tube of mascara.

6. What medical use does Botox have?
As poster jmowreader pointed out, Botox does have medical uses. Another use is treatment of essential tremor.

2. Why?
Because it generates lot of money. Same question could be applied to hair coloring which is pretty toxic stuff.

The pubic generally is made to believe all of this stuff is harmless.

3. Well, it's only available by prescription, and not to patients.
It's pretty well controlled, but there are always unscrupulous people willing to bypass regulations. It's pretty much impossible to control that. You can make it illegal, but look how well that works in other areas.
