C-SPAN Has Been Taken Over by the Koch Brothers
Edited on Tue May-17-11 05:37 AM by Nictuku
All weekend, every time I tuned in, I had to change it because it was AEI (AKA PNAC) justifying torture. My TV defaults to C-SPAN after I watch something recorded, so overnight (I sleep with the TV on), every time I woke up, that was on. No wonder I had nightmares.

This morning, I wake up to Paul Ryan pushing his Kill the Elderly Plan.

So disgusting. So disappointing. I can't imagine who the Washington Journal guests will be today.

4. Huh?
I've been on DU since around 2000. I just don't post very often. Too busy. I sleep with the TV on because I have trouble getting to sleep. The TV helps, and it is better than taking sleeping pills. Thanks for the advice though.

6. Actually, more like 2005
It seems longer though. I became politically aware in 2000, and politically frustrated in 2004 (election results), which is how I found DU. I never thought I'd be at the point of missing Nixon.

10. I wish this Progressive Budget would get some traction
I've only even heard about it on progressive radio. C-SPAN is (somewhat) redeemed this morning for having Donna on to discuss it.

9. C-Span radio too
I sometimes listened to it while driving. Lately it seems that the only people permitted to speak on C-Span radio are repukes.

12. C-SPIN Always Has Been...
The first big deception is that C-SPIN, since they don't run commercials is like PBS. It isn't. Its owned by the "cable companies" and was set up to fulfill an early requirement of cable operators to have a public affairs channel. They turned to former Nixon aide...Brian Lamb who used the guise of covering the House as the cover to fill the rest of the schedule with "policy wonks"...many of them from the newly developing "think tanks"...most were funded then as they are now by right wing families like the Mellon-Scaiffes and Koch.

It was C-SPIN that made Gnewt Gingrich a "star" when they televised his hour long "after hour" speeches to an empty house chamber while the cameras were still on. It was C-SPIN's Steve Skully who served on the White House Press Gallery that gave credentials to Jeff Gunkert/Gannon (anyone remember him??). To this day C=SPIN has a very right wing lean...the only network to regularly cite the Washington Moonie Times as a legitimate news source and inviting the nuttiest wingnuts like Jerome Corsi and James Farrah (Wingnut World Daily) to full hour one-on-one interviews. These interviews make Faux seem sedate.

That said, I still prefer watching wj over Mourning Joe...while the guests are sckewed, it's fun to hear some liberals and progressives (the ones they let through) rip these wingnuts apart.

On the weekend, the network is totally useless...
