I am certain we can make things change for the better if we unite and simply say, day and night, whenever possible, as an answer to every question or statement made in public by any politician: "cut military spending in half and end the wars now."

Politicians in both parties must be plastered with this simple solution no matter what they say when trying to convince us 'it is much more complicated than that', etc. This pig shit will no longer fly.

10. Good idea, as this would help our military become even more lean and effective
Right now the Pentagon and DoD is too good at wasting trillions of dollars and killing innocent people and animals, and destroying the planet.

Removing the majority of their funding would reduce these activities, and force them to be much more economically efficient.

I say we start by shouting down any and all Republicans whenever they speak in public, no matter what the topic.

CUT MILITARY SPENDING AND STOP THE WARS NOW!!!

Do this first, and then we might listen to your crappy, bull shit speeches.

11. But Little Lindsey Graham wants us to stay in Afghanistan 4-ev-R.
It's interesting, because even though you make an excellent point here, I'd be willing to bet that if the economy were anywhere near "normal" instead of this "worst economy since the Great Depression" state we're in, more people would be in a white-hot rage over the length of BOTH wars.

Seems to me that most of the people I know...who may or may not be representative of the "group think" that makes up the U.S. as a whole...are in such a state of personal financial pain that the wars aren't bothering them anywhere near as much as they should.

14. What you said is painfully ironic
Nevertheless, I believe if enough of us simply responded with, "cut military spending in half and end the wars," as an answer to any question, speech, or event, in any and all public scenarios, we WILL make things change for the better. I believe we can make significant changes by simply doing this 24/7 whenever possible.

I have learned a good lesson from the best propagandists the republicans can buy: shout them down with your slogan until the opposition gives up... and the opposition WILL give up eventually.

Time to turn the tables, and go on the offense:

Cut military spending and end the wars now!!

61 percent say tax the rich to fix budget deficit

By Daniel Tencer
Monday, January 3rd, 2011 -- 6:57 pm

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/01/tax-rich-fix-budget-deficit/

Americans of all income levels overwhelmingly favor raising taxes on the rich over any other method available to reduce the budget deficit, a new poll has found.

According to a survey conducted for Vanity Fair and CBS, 61 percent of Americans prefer increasing taxes on the wealthy as the first step to balancing the budget. By comparison, only 20 percent chose the second-most popular option -- cutting defense spending.

Cutting Medicare and Social Security -- the other two options -- got four percent and three percent support, respectively.

Even among the relatively wealthy -- those earning above $100,000 -- 46 percent said they wanted to see tax hikes on the wealthy before any other steps were taken.

29. Hey MannyGoldstein!
:hi:

I've been observing a lot lately, and trying to figure out how to cut through all the chatter.

I believe the common ground lies with two basic solutions:

"Cut military sending in half and end the wars now"

"Double the taxes for the rich"

... now to beat my drum and shout in their faces until they cannot take it anymore.

35. Cut military spending and
redistribute income in accord with a viable Representative democratic republic. Have equal access to social and legal justice and progressive and recompense of tax policies so we have equal ownership of the public commons and infrastructure. Sell Federal and State natural resource only by competitive and competent service contracts and retain max to the commons. Practice honest to the facts of foreign trade in policy to benefit the USA. Kill for profit health care. Fair elections including financing and PR. Lots of breaking of monopoly and kin to re-establish regional and local business. The cuts in military can be replaced by infrastructure and rural restoration WPA/CETA style projects of limited term (say through 2016 for good POTUS Obama political strategy). Prosecute war and financial criminals and take their plunder. Uplift the social, educational, and medical bottom. Fix in favor of Americans in residence only because of childhood (DREAM). Quit the idiot and immoral wars on drugs and terror. Do the fucking obvious.

Maybe my post should have been the last four words in the last paragraph.

This should be the strategy of all three branches of government or we are a psychotic civilization that not only failed but deserves failure according to the values I was taught in childhood.

mention the 800 plus military bases we have in foreign countries, the unnecessary wars, the fraud and waste in the Pentagon budget in general?

The wing nuts typically say hands off military spending or propose even MORE military spending via more wars and more bombs and killing machines.

63. Or as Randy Newman said:
We need a Huey Long type person who will, as Randy wrote, "who took on the Standard oilmen and whipped their ass? Just like he promised he'd do... "ain't no Standard oil man gonna run this state, gonna be run by little folks like me and you.""

Swamp Rat has it right . . . END WARS NOW!

Both wars were a huge mistake anyway. At least we tried to pay for our other wars. Cut taxes and start two wars -the perfect way to starve the beast(social security and medicare). Mission accomplished!

77. We spent over a trillion this year and Russia spent 60 billion ....enough said.
"the total for defense spending to between $1.01 and $1.35 trillion in fiscal year 2010"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_budget_of_the_United_States

"Russia's budget spending on state defense orders will amount to 1.2 trillion rubles ($46.8 billion) in 2009, first deputy prime minister Sergei Ivanov said on 12 September 2008. The spending figure is outlined in the Russian budget for 2009-2011 which was due to be considered by Russia's lower house of parliament, the State Duma, on September 19. The three-year budget envisaged additional spending of 170 billion rubles ($6.63 billion) in comparison to previous annual programs"

are building weapons. Stopping the wars would help but there needs to private businesses opened to provide jobs. That is more complicated then just the good old cut government spending.

94. Retooling companies is easy!
Before WWII broke out, Chrysler and Ford and other auto plants were building cars and trucks. Once the war started, they retooled their plants and immediately began building tanks and military trucks in large quantities. How long did that transition take place? 6 months? Well, let's go the other way: if you're a defense contractor building guidance systems, retool and build smaller guidance systems that can be installed in cars for enhanced navigation. Or just build gyroscope toys at cheaper prices than what China can build them for. Or build the super small gyroscopes that are now fitted in iPhone 4s.

If you build tanks, build more fuel efficient farming equipment. Build hauling equipment to help rebuild the infrastructure in some cities like Detroit or Cleveland. If you build jet planes, tone it down and help make cars more aerodynamic. Or retool completely and build sofas by the millions selling at $50 a set. Kill the competition from China or elsewhere.

Can't think of what to build? Just look around and see what the problem is. Build something to fix that problem. We need to rebuild bridges, roads, upgrade traffic systems. Retool and get to work. There's so much work needed to get done. Of course, there's not as much money in it as from the MIC, but there's still plenty.

Go, Go, GO!!!

95. Grow up!
Grown-ups know that war is a cost-effective way to make the world a better place. How else can one get genuine speculative benefits for the low, low price of billions and billions of dollars spent, hundreds of thousands of lives lost, and countless persons deprived of loved ones and/or turned into refugees. It's quite a bargain.
