Patrick Schwarzenegger Changes Last Name to Shriver
Source: SFist

After news broke today that Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a child with a household employee in 2003, which prompted the break up for his and Maria Shriver's marriage, the former California Governor's 17-year-old son, Patrick, announced that he changed his last name to Shriver. The Schwarzenegger's third child went on to send out the following Twitter message, "Some days you feel like shit, some days you want to quit and just be normal for a bit, yet i love my family till death do us apart."

3. It's tough to see your parents divorce, even if you're not a little kid.
I was 27 when my parents broke up, and it was awful.

6. By all accounts, he's watched his dad make his mom's life hell for years now.
Whatever helps him express himself in a way that's not self-destructive should be respected. He's certainly old enough to make a decision like this.

21. the shriver name has a history of its own.
i would rather be named for the guy who started the peace corp than a guy who glories in being seen as the ultimate killer.

11. My niece worked in a language summer camp in Costa Rica a few years ago
and Patrick attended it. She said he appeared to be a normal teenaged boy, nothing remarkably bad OR good about him.

Good for him. I'd be equally disgusted. Hope ALL his kids give him the treatment he has earned.

Ahnuld is a complete douche, and always has been IMHO.

12. He kept this child a secret for 10 years.

Another human being was denied. Arnold lied and continued to lie to his family for 10 years. 10 freaking long years. Sure there were hints of infidelity, but fathering a child he wasn't a father to for 10 years...how does one do that. Is that something one can easily forgive. Denying another human being the right to a whole or even an involved family? AS did this not only to the child but his own family. These kids have a 1/2 brother or sister then have never had a chance to get to know. My impression is that Maria's side of the family are very close knit. There is a good chance the child would have grown up knowing this one side of his/her 1/2 siblings. So Patrick wants to be identified more with the Shrivers than the Schwarzeneggers..can't blame the kid one iota.

His tweet has him adding it as one of his multiple middle names, right before Schwarzenegger.

16. well good for him, the father's cheating often affects more than 'merely'
his marriage, it also affects his kids.

18. It would really be more accurate to put it this way..
The cheating of a spouse often effects more than "merely" their marriage.

I'm sure you don't think that only men cheat on their marriage.
