Man eats 25,000th Big Mac, 39 years after his 1st
http://www.sunherald.com/2011/05/17/3119603/man-eats-25000th-big-mac-39-years.html

A retired prison guard ate his 25,000th Big Mac on Tuesday, 39 years to the day after eating his first ... nine.

Don Gorske was honored after reaching the meaty milestone during a ceremony at a McDonald's in his hometown of Fond du Lac. Surely McDonald's most loyal customer, Guinness World Records recognized Gorske's feat three years and 2,000 Big Macs ago, and the 57-year-old says he has no desire to stop.

"I plan on eating Big Macs until I die," he said. "I have no intentions of changing. It's still my favorite food. Nothing has changed in 39 years. I look forward to it every day."

Gorske, who appeared in the 2004 documentary "Super Size Me," which examined the fast food industry, looks nothing like one might expect of a fast food junkie. He's trim and walks regularly for exercise, and he attributes his build to being "hyperactive." He said he was recently given a clean bill of health and that his cholesterol is low.

Gorske's obsession with the burger - two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun, for those not familiar with the once-ubiquitous ads - started May 17, 1972, when he bought three Big Macs to celebrate the purchase of a new car. He was hooked, and went back to McDonald's twice more that day, eating nine before they closed.

How do those who claim McDonald's food is so unhealthy reconcile their beliefs with this story?

4. He's an outlier.
Just one month of eating that shit had serious effects on Morgan Spurlock's health.

15. Morgan Spurlock was eating McDonalds three times a day and getting a combo meal each time
As the article says, the Big Mac is only 540 calories. And while it's high in sodium and fat, you can balance that out by eating relatively healthy otherwise.

The regular fries and a coke are enough calories to make a small to medium meal and the super sized fries and coke are alone a large meal.

6. what else does he eat and how active is he ?
also there are some people who can eat more crap but doesn't affect them as it would most others. but these are a small percentage.

i can lose weight by eating a burger but everything else is healthy . salad , low soup ,water or something else with very low or no calories.

14. Dr. ATkins died from head trauma.
I don't know why you'd use his death to get in a slam on him. He was in rather good health for a 71 year old prior to his death.

Also, I've also lost 55 pounds in the past 90 days on the diet and I've never been in better health.

9. It's partly a correlation vs causation thing
If I ordered a quarter pounder with cheese and a small fries for lunch, and a diet coke every day from McDonalds every day for lunch that would be 740 calories for lunch each day. I generally try to keep my lunch closer to 600-650 and then have a snack later in the afternoon so I have fuel to go running later on. But assuming I ate a bit less for dinner or skipped my afternoon snack, I wouldn't gain weight.

Now, if I ordered a Big Mac, a large fries, and a large regular soda, that would be 1350 calories. I would have to eat an extremely light dinner and nothing else for the entire day. But chances are if I'm eating that many calories in one sitting, I'm probably not watching what I eat the rest of the day.

In Gorske's case, he only eats the Big Mac and no fries or soda usually. That's probably not typical of somebody who eats as many Big Macs as he does.

BTW, I think Morgan Spurlock ought to try eating at one of the more yuppie fast food chains for a whole month and see what the results are. My office likes to eat at Panera and I often have trouble finding something I will eat there because most of their sandwiches and salads have more calories than a Big Mac. I'm not sure if they are required to display their calorie counts everywhere (in the one we go to they are displayed next to every item on the menu) but if they weren't, you could easily go there thinking you're eating relatively healthy and pack on the pounds pretty fast.

13. The fact that he said "a million dollars wouldn't get him to quit" speaks volumes
...about his mental fitness, as does the fact that he's kept track all these years for no apparent reason.

Anyone who takes advice of any kind from this loon is deserving of all the woes that become them.
