This is interesting, since for the year 2008, the job title Security Officer has risen into the Top 10 Most Dangerous Jobs in America with a aggregate fatality and injury list larger than some other previous occupations, per 100,000 workers. Security officers are taking the place of police officers and in doing so more frequently are exposing themselves more often to danger and physical harm. Note than many security guards carry no firearms on patrol and still may be shot. Insurance costs for such jobs must be rising as well.

Demand for police officers up 187%

3. I'm glad you survived
I did one excluded from the list, combat Infantry, VN, did 18 months in an Army hospital, and was retired for partial disability.

It's obvious from the list that some have unions, and some don't, and some may have access to affordable health insurance, and some may not. And this is for people at extremely high risk.

The military took care of me. Now the VA takes care of me. But I can't help wondering who is taking care of not only these high-risk professionals, but everyone else.

I can't help wondering why health care shoud be out of reach for anyone?

8. Problem is, there are a LOT of people nobody takes care of
I guess you can say that I'm a Boomer, and a VN vet, and I've got mine. In terms of health care, I've got it all, now. Anything I need, the VA--the government--will take care of.

Yeah, I'm set. But I still wonder why anyone who is sick or hurt can't get the health care thy need.

10. 5th Cervical Spine. It's in the neck and while not as catastrophic as some
places, I did have to change the field I work in. It was that or leave the love of my life, nursing. So I work in the NICU with babies under the weight limit I can lift.

I intend to do this for the rest of my natural born life - I only wish I had entered this trade 20 years earlier.

I have no kids, no family and the bank took our house - I'm free and clear. Right now I'm treading water with a local contractor making shit money while waiting on the state to issue my Journeyman's license. Should be in hand the next week or so. Then I'm 'tramping'.

It sucks that it took me till middle age to find where I should have been all along, but I was such a wild ass at 20 that I most likely would have killed myself on the job then anyway. At any rate, I don't see myself doing anything else for a living. It's an awesome job and this is where my particular attributes, aptitudes and skills fit best.
