Obama At Boston Fundraiser: I Understand Your Frustration With Me
Edited on Thu May-19-11 07:08 AM by IDemo
BOSTON — President Obama was in Boston Wednesday night, telling supporters at a fundraiser he understands their frustration with him.

Re-election campaigns begin by energizing your base. And Boston is a great base for the president. He’s raised more money here than any other metropolitan area after New York, Los Angeles and Washington.

Obama told Democrats at the Cyclorama in the South End Wednesday night that he knows they’ve sometimes been frustrated with him.

“I know. I know all your conversations. Oh, you know, ‘Why’d Obama compromise with the Republicans on that? Why’d health care take so long? Where’s our public option?’”

3. He doesn't understand. He thinks it's all about policy and not something else, like...
The people he chose to join his administration.

I think it's easy for him to blame the republicans for the other reasons, ie. compromise, no public option, etc., but it's nobody's fault but his for picking the people he did to fix the economy and other things.

9. Heres what I'm thinking....

He thinks that in his second term, he can tack left because the scorched-earth rhetoric the GOP will have to engage in to even hold what they have will yield control of the House back to the Democrats, as well maintain the D majority in the Senate. (also that he doesn't have to get re-elected again, so he can spend his last term actually acting like a Progressive, which he may or may not actually BE, sometimes its hard to tell heehee). Hes banking on the notion that we believe that he really WANTS to get Gitmo closed, and get really- and-for-truly Progressives appointed to important Govt. positions, things like that, but the mean old GOP just won't let him do it. The problem with that view of reality is that, unless he gets the Senate leadership to fix the filibuster, or ends up with a 70 vote TRULY LIBERAL majority (yeah, right....) in that same body, ain't NONE of it gonna happen. What he will end up with is the political capital to do pretty much every Progressive damned thing that he thinks we want, with no actual MEANS to get anything through the Senate (AGAIN). I get what he might be thinking, but I don't think, realistically, that thats what will happen. Not without a LOT of radical leadership and arm-twisting from him (which he probably won't do), and some really polished Brass Balls from the Democratic Leadership of Congress. If it works out like he wants, thats nine kinds of Awesome, but the more likely scenario is that Congress will end up deadlocked around a GOP-abused filibuster, just like it was the FIRST two years of his time in Office.

Anyone can feel free to tell me I'm wrongwrongwrong about this, it won't hurt my feelings =)
