This Modern World: An innocent fable of a very wealthy man
How could he have known the Nigerian-e-mail-backed derivatives market would collapse?

A top hat and a monocle on the very rich man? That's just racist. Promoting totally unfair stereotypes. Tsk tsk.

10. Let's not forget that many of these wealthy men weren't even Americans!
The thing that offended both the right and left parts of my brain was how we bailed out FOREIGN INVESTORS who had chosen to invest in AIG, etc. to get 20% returns.

But then I saw that Scottish BILLIONAIRE on a little show called 60 minutes tell his story about how much he lost on AIG, et al. As AIG investors were 100% reimbursed it BOGGLED MY MIND to think that OUR money was going to some rich foreigners. When *I* made bad investments, the gov't was magically absent from helping me out recover my losses...

I take that home-grown billionaires robbing you blind are A-OK then?

25. Perhaps I'm too much of an accountant...
When a business goes bankrupt, the remaining assets are distributed in a particular order. For companies, bond holders and creditors are reimbursed before premium stocks, then regular equity stock holders.

So the order of who got paid what is important, and when it came to getting money from the gov't for investments which were otherwise not insured by the gov't I think of who should be last in line, and I stand guilty for favoring Americans over people who are not.

12. What?!
The very wealthy man didn't "earn" a profit on his investment in Nigerian-email-backed securities? He was just reimbursed his reckless investment? It's socialism, it is! The only solution is another round of tax cuts for the very wealthy man. Tighten your belts, everyone else.

14. K & R. Here, likely, is where the investor eggheads come in and cry "False equivalency!"
"Mortgages and Derivatives AIN'T TULIPS!!!!"

Which, of course, is besides the point. No matter how they do it, the wealthy are almost NEVER made to pay for their theft, screw ups or felonies. As a matter of fact, they often come out richer, more ubiquitous in power and continuing the same behavior as they did before.

32. Is the Action McNews Network owned by the Very Wealthy Man?
Or does he just buy a lot of advertising space on it, meaning that they wouldn't want to offend him by suggesting that he suffer some of the consequences of his actions?

26. Meanwhile, the people who bought houses they would later lose to foreclosure deserved to lose them.
They're all stupid deadbeats who knew they couldn't afford a house. Let them all live in the street!

I'm reminded of a song from Finian's Rainbow:

"When a rich man loses on a horse

Isn't he a sport, oh isn't he a sport?

When a poor man loses on a horse

He's a gambler, he's a spender

He's a low life, he's a reason for divorce!"
