Peter Fonda calls Obama 'traitor' at Cannes
Source: Yahoo News

Wed May 18, 11:45 am ET

CANNES, France (AFP) – Peter Fonda launched a four-letter attack on US President Barack Obama at the Cannes film festival on Wednesday, calling him a traitor over the handling of the aftermath of the Gulf oil spill.

The star of the 1969 road movie "Easy Rider" was in Cannes for the premiere of "The Big Fix" by Rebecca and Josh Tickell, the only feature documentary in the official selection at the Cannes film festival this year.

Fonda -- a keen environmentalist and co-producer of the film which centres on the explosion of the BP oil rig Deepwater Horizon, the ensuing spill and its consequences -- accused Washington of trying to gag reporting on the issue.

"I sent an email to President Obama saying, 'You are a f(expletive) traitor,' using those words... 'You're a traitor, you allowed foreign boots on our soil telling our military -- in this case the coastguard -- what they can and could not do, and telling us, the citizens of the United States, what we could or could not do'."

...I wouldn't go so far as to call him a traitor, but his commitment to protecting the environment has been woefully poor thus far...

I love hyped up rhetoric, but at some point a person can end up distracting from the point he's trying to make.

First Lars von Trier goes on a Nazi rampage, now Peter Fonda calls the president a f(expletive) traitor. Too much drinking on the yachts, methinks.

10. Not unusual to hear these days --
think Democrats have largely tried not to criticize Obama --

We are really all most of us removed from the environmental destruction -- which has

become deadly considering BP/Gulf and Halliburton/Fraking -- and don't feel the urgency

of these problems --

but, we're all on the list to be "Katrina'd" and/or "Fukushima'd" -- !!

The oil industry took advantage of a 50 year delay in our feeling the effects of

Global Warming and what capitalism's exploitation of all nature and humanity had done

to the planet --

Time is up now and we're really feeling it --

Scientists have known the dangers of the industrial revolution for 100 years --

We've wasted a lot of time --

Capitalism is suicidal --

time's up --

13. Getting to be a familiar story. Remember all that tough "Whose ass to kick?" talk from Obama.
IMO, with President Obama you never know what he's going to follow-through on and if he does, how much. As we see now from people who still post BP updates, BP is going to skate on this, with American taxpayers paying for something on the order of 20% of the entire cleanup.

Obama is not about change. He's about running things the same old way they've been run in Washington for a long time. Sometimes it seems as though the major difference between presidents is whether they support a woman's right to an abortion or not.

While abortion rights are important, it's a sad distinction to make.

20. Didn't I also read here recently that BP is taking a huge tax break
because they are expensing any cost they did foot? Wouldn't that make the tax burden on us (myself excluded at the moment as I have no income, hence no tax) even higher than 20%?

His point pertains to the manner in which Obama has handled the Deepwater Spill. Clearly, Mr. Fonda does not think highly of Obama's actions. Do you approve of how Obama handled the situation then?

shitty, sight unseen. Just so everyone can think about that. So they can remember when this film is being praised for telling the truth. Here is a piece about it from the Washington Post. About the film, not about an email one of the producers sent. The filmmakers invited several celebrities, including Fonda, to participate in their documentary. In return, Fonda got an executive producer credit.

He didn't "put his money" anywhwere.

There have to be reasons behind the big change between Obama the candidate and how he governs. I strongly suspect the reasons lie in the famous 'warning speech' President Eisenhower gave Americans.
