Official: Navy officer to be relieved of command over sexually explicit videos
WASHINGTON — Defense officials say the Navy is expected to relieve the commander of an aircraft carrier from his command in the wake of reports about sexually explicit videos on ship.

A senior defense official says the announcement on Capt. Owen Honors of the USS Enterprise, currently stationed in Norfolk, Va., is expected Tuesday afternoon. The officials said the Navy has chosen a commander to replace Honors on the nuclear-powered ship which is scheduled to deploy to the Middle East this month.

The officials revealed plans for Honors only on the grounds of anonymity because no official announcement has yet been made.

2. I wonder if he thinks it was worth it? I wonder if the next one will?
It's scary to think we have such people in positions of power and authority.

3. To be honest, that stuff was tame compared to the stuff I saw from CO's in the Army.
That's all I have to say. Maybe times have changed since I was in. It has been over 15 years now....and when I first joined, it was 1982 ... lots has changed since then.

8. Marines I knew, and sailors I saw, did shit...
I can't even relate to DUers... and that says something! Officers and enlisted.
If you make somebody a grunt, they'll act like grunts sometimes.

I think the problem lies with the fact that the military is an anachronism. Salutes, uniforms, ribbons... all that shit is from the Middle Ages. The modern world?... the military is a lot closer to civilian mores. The conflict between the raunchy past and the (supposedly) civilized present is difficult to resolve.

4. He'll be resigning his commission very soon.
You might be able to get away with this kind of crap, but only until it hits the news. Then, it's history for your career.

7. Exactly - he should have been called on the carpet the first time
he made one of these videos. Where was his commanding officer then? What I want to know is this; while this guy was swanning around pretending he was a member of the cast of SNL, who the hell was running the ship?

10. Has anyone seen any info about the purpose of these videos?
Were they part of a shipwide newscast, an intro to broadcast movies or what? Were people required to watch them? Do other ships have an "XO's Movie Night"?
