How many people actually think the Rapture will be tomorrow?

Does anyone here know that? I assume it is a pretty low number.

On edit: I didn't mean members here, I meant in the general population

4. The question is how many people outside the good ol USA think it will happen?
Bet you that's a REALLY low number.

Even the nutcases that fantasize about the 72 virgins thingy don't seem to have bought into this steaming crock of shit.

But it seems to me I heard somewhere that the Duggers did. So there's a fairly good crowd right there.

5. My guess is you could go into any church and also see a low number
Sure, I'm pretty hostile to religion - but even the most evangelical types are biting their tongues about now

7. A lot of them think it will happen eventually ... Just not tomorrow.
Which is pretty disheartening when you think about the lack of critical thinking skills in this country.

6. Do you suppose the news outlets have prepared for it, like the way they pre-write obituaries?
Fox News probably has. Not so sure about the others. :)

9. I'm starting to wonder.
My grandma used to say if you worry about something too much it will come true.
If you apply that logic to the number of posts on DU about it, then looks like we're in trouble.

10. Most Christians do not believe in a secret, pre-tribulation rapture.
Most who do believe in the rapture do not believe that anyone can set a specific date for it.

15. Debateable at best
Very high percentages, and in evangelical sects a huge majority, believe it will happen within a few decades.

What liberal DU Christians seem to want to think, and certainly want to claim, their brethren in the larger world believe, and what that larger group states they believe when asked are two very divergent states.

19. Sorry, not debatable. Evangelicals only comprise a fraction of all Christians worldwide.
Most who do believe in the rapture do not believe in date setting because the Bible clearly states that nobody knows the date.

20. So how does the total equal 41% then?
Edited on Fri May-20-11 02:29 PM by dmallind
A tiny subset would not take 32 and 2o and 27 and make it 41 overall now would it?

And if only a tiny fraction by date setting how come so many are convinced it's before 2050? What these people believe may be inconvenient or embarassing to you, but there is much evidence outside surveys (not that there needs to be - surveys are exactly the right tools to answer how many people believe X) too - surely you don't think the Left Behind series sells on literaryu merit, or that people send money to the Van Impes of the world because they disagree with them?

11. If I get a
winning lottery ticket I know by the usual quirk of fate the world will end before I collect. On the other hand the odds always better on the ticket since they actually exist.

On the other hand I definitely believe I must lose the lottery on any normal day. I suppose that is pessimistically irrational on much smaller scale..

23. Something around 0.01% of all Christians, because...
unlike Mr. Camping and his followers, the other 99.99% of Christians actually comprehend what Matthew 24:36 means. That, and they don't come up with some oddball code that doesn't make sense, either.
