Don't be too hard on the people who thought they would be Raptured
We once had hope that things were going to change for the better too.

1. I wish it was that easy.
Anyone that thought they were going to be raptured should seek therapy.

2. Some of the true believers featured in articles are like so many people
Lots of bills, family members suffering dementia, no connection to the political/economic system.

3. Anyone that thought they were going to be Raptured
would fall to the bottom of the list
If you feel you are living the perfect Christian life, you probably are not

7. I'm reminded of an Emo Phillips joke... well, 2 actually
http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Emo_Philips#GQ_Magazine_-_75_Funniest_Jokes_of_All_Time_.28June_1999.29

When I was a kid, I used to pray every night for a new bike. Then I realised, the Lord doesn't work that way. So I just stole one and asked Him to forgive me. ... and I got it!

When I was a kid my dad would say, "Emo, do you believe in the Lord?" I'd say, "Yes!" He'd say, "Then stand up and shout Hallelujah!" So I would ... and I'd fall out of the roller coaster.

8. I have met many Christians and 'christians' in my life
The true Christians try to live their life that way and are always trying to do better

The 'christians' feel they are better than every one else and have no room for improvement

Just saying you believe in Jesus is not enough

12. Except you don't get Raptured or go to heaven by being perfect because nobody is.
In the context of Christianity you get there by faith. Being perfect has nothing to do with it.

13. I never said that the perfect get Raptured
I said if you thought you were a perfect Christian, you weren't

If anyone got Raptured they were surprised

6. But WE weren't going to leave anybody behind.
And that, I think, is the essential difference. These selfish bastards were happy to do so.

It's like the time I was ushering a hit off-Broadway show and a man came down the stairs at the Village Gate and slapped down two tickets and a fifty dollar bill, saying "I want the best seats in the house." He didn't care who I had to displace to earn my bribe. I took the fifty and the tickets and looked at the tickets. They were already for the best seats in the house. "No problem," I said, and put the money in my pocket.

By the rules of their faith, they already had tickets. But they didn't trust those rules, and they wanted to cheat. So screw 'em.

16. This is actually the most important point.
We liberals think that everyone should have access to health care, and not have to go bankrupt to pay for it, and to be able to get all the medications they need and not have to cut pills in half because they can't afford the medicine.

These people assume that they are much better than the rest of us, and are positively gleeful at the thought that we "heathens" or whatever they want to call us, will suffer terribly by being left behind. They have no compassion of any kind.

11. I don't care for people that think they are better than everyone else and
turn to a god to justify it, and basically say fuck the rest of you.

14. Like the people who waited for someone to make things better...
Edited on Sun May-22-11 08:20 PM by liberalmuse
by whisking them off a planet they helped turn to shit, I don't have too much sympathy for people hoping for change and doing nothing to make it happen themselves. However, I do feel bad for their children and the families they would gladly have let burn in hell. As for the adults believing in this 'rapture' bullshit - there's just no excuse for that kind of stupidity in this day and age. None whatsoever.

15. no, fuck them.
Their hope was that they would be sent to heaven while the rest of us would burn in hell for eternity. So screw those assholes.
