Orbitz BOYCOTT Catches Tony Perkins With His HYPOCRISY Hanging Out

:smoke: :smoke:

The Religious Right has a long history of using the boycott to get its way. Mobilize the believers and use the force of numbers in terms of services withheld to crush the opposition, that’s the Onward Christian Soldiers way of not doing business. We’ve seen it time and again. It is one of the ways in which a minority can still throw its weight around in this country. Even being outnumbered, they can get songs off the radio, books of the library shelves, movies out of theaters and television shows canceled. It’s an old truth: the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

But liberals and progressives have finally come to understand this truth as well. We have used it as a weapon against FOX News, against Glenn Beck specifically (led by ColorofChange.org and many of its 600,000 members). And now our attention has turned to Orbitz, in a campaign jointly conducted by Media Matters and several national LGBT groups. This campaign has called on Orbitz to stop advertising on Fox News because of their negative coverage of LGBT issues. It must be noted here that Orbitz was one of those last-ditch hold-outs from the boycott of Glenn Beck.

One of the leaders of the Religious Right’s boycott machine has responded to the Drop Fox campaign with typical hypocrisy. Tony Perkins, who has called gays terrorists, wrote on FRC’s site::rofl: (look-in-the-mirror-moron-if-you're-looking-for-domestic-terrorists )

"....As I have long pointed out, it’s not enough to make a few concessions to these extremists. Once they have a foothold, a little bit of acceptance turns into a full-blown demand to co-opt your business. They want corporations to join them in the assault on real tolerance. Unless you cower and give them what they want, these activists will make sure you can’t function in society. Over the years, gay activists have perfected this kind of corporate terrorism. And until companies stand their ground and refuse to negotiate, homosexuals will continue to bully businesses......"

2. Irony
Right there in the very first sentence...

"The Religious Right has a long history of using the boycott to get its way.

And then there's the rest...

It’s an old truth: the squeaky wheel gets the grease".

Is it just me, or is there something sort of hypocritical about all of this? Believe me, I have no love for the RR.

However...how many times I have read it here, I can't even count, where people want to CONTROL what others see or hear out in public. DEMANDING that business owners change the channels on their TVs if the channels they're showing are not on the list of Approved Viewing For The Rest Of The World As Dictated By Liberals. And before anyone gets any ideas, I don't like Fux News, either.

What gives anybody the right to dictate what others should be able to buy or sell or see or hear? Because they think they're RIGHT and the other guys are wrong?

If someone is committing an injustice of some kind, then OK. I can see a boycott.

But just because X group of people don't like what everyone else in the world might see? Idiotic, no matter what side does it.

3. All a boycott says is that *I* will not buy this product..
What does that have to do with limiting choices for others?
