Cities and towns can do it cheaper because the profit motive is removed, greatly reducing the chance of price gouging.
Internet access needs to be a required service. If businesses can't do it ata reasonable cost, then the government needs to pick up the slack.

I hear this a lot. It pisses me off more and more each time I hear it.

Do I enjoy an unfair advantage over Jiffy Lube by changing my own oil? It's my fucking money, if I want to do it myself, that's my fucking business. The same holds true for anything. If my neighbors and I can pool our resources to provide services to ourselves cheaper than AT&T, then any elected official who stands in the way of that is violating his or her oath to uphold a constitution which begins with the words "we the people".

BTW, the article strongly implies that "done deal" means the bill will become law. Not a victory against the corporate machine at all.
