Earth to DU: 2012 election is still 18 months away
Plenty of time for the Democrats to blow it.

So let's enjoy this victory and continue to push our democratic leaders to continue this momentum. Obama has started showing us signs of the guy we elected in 2008 and hopefully the rest of the dems in congress have grown back their spines. They can do this for the next 18 months we can unload all those Tea Party hacks elected in 2010.

2. I never take anything for granted.
In almost every area of life, it's just not a good idea.

3. Nevertheless it is still a huge win. Between them Corwin and Davis outspent Hochul
Edited on Tue May-24-11 10:08 PM by yellowcanine
more than 5 to 1. Yet Hochul got 48% of the vote - a fantastic showing for a 3 way race in a special election while being outspent by that much.
Also, Hochul focused RELENTLESSLY on the Ryan Medicare plan, so no one can now claim that this race is not a referendum on that plan at least in this congressional district. Blathering about Davis being a spoiler is whistling in the dark by Republicans. Make no mistake, they lost big and they know it. I would love to see Karl Rove's face tonight. He is a huge loser here.

And remember - this is a STRONG Republican district. Democrats just don't win this district but Hochul just did. Huge win and I am going to savor it.

4. C'mon, LynneSin! Give us a break!
This is an inconceivable (like Rachel, I love "The Princess Bride") outcome here in NY-26. At least let us be giddy tonight?

7. Thank you. I've seen Dems snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
Edited on Tue May-24-11 10:22 PM by coalition_unwilling
too often before to calI 2012 just yet. If I had the sense that Dems were now going to go for the (Repuke) jugular, I'd be more optimistic. But Dems seem to lack that 'killer' instinct that can push Repukes to the edge of perpetual irrelevance. They had Repukes on the ropes in 2008 only to let them get up from the mat and re-enter the ring (apologies for the mixed metaphor).

So I'm with you, enjoying the victory tonight and what it may herald. But also mindful that Ryan's Medicare plan needs to be tied around the Repukes' necks to drown them once and for all.

9. Way too often the Democratic leadership seems to emulate General Burnside.

14. Or General McClellan. Come to think of it, McClellan was a
Democrat :) He still should have kicked Lee's ass at Antietam Creek.

12. Tea Party Folks Aren't Backing Down
The Ryan budget was a sop to the Tea Party that Boehner thought he'd get away with. It was a mistake because the Republicans should never have taken ownership of Tea Party issues. Now that they'll have to disengage from the Tea Party, it's going to be costly.

Instead of taking blame for NY-26, the Tea Party's going to double down. They're going to hire smarter political advisors, and they're going to make themselves even more of a force to be reckoned with. Their success will come largely at the expense of the Republicans.

Great news for Democrats!
