Rob Woodall (R-GA) Won't Give Up Government Health Care ''Because It's Free'' (VIDEO)

WASHINGTON -- Moments after preaching extreme self-reliance to one of his constituents, a Georgia Republican told a gathering in his district that he will continue to rely on government-subsidized health care "because it's free."

Freshman Rep. Rob Woodall, who served as chief of staff to his predecessor, made national news earlier this week for comments he made, captured on video by Patch.com, to a retired constituent who told him her company does not provide retiree benefits.

"Hear yourself, ma'am. Hear yourself," Woodall told the woman. "You want the government to take care of you, because your employer decided not to take care of you. My question is, 'When do I decide I'm going to take care of me?'"

The exchange continued. In video provided to HuffPost by another constituent, Woodall was asked why -- if he believes in such self reliance -- he doesn't forgo his government health care plan.

1. They really are delusional, aren't they?
I can't decide if it's learned ignorance or an organic brain deficiency.

4. The religious right has called this "Bleeding the beast"...
and they have no problem with it. They deliberately drain money from the system they hate, justifying it because the system is "evil".

Their religion and politics are more closely related than even DU knows...

5. 'LOOK AT ME, I GOT MINE'
'I don't have time to take care of you too'

This man should just slink away like the snail slime he is

I called his office and it was confirmed that he did make those statements

This is a press release off his website

Washington, DC – On Thursday, May 12, 2011, Congressman Rob Woodall received the Guardian of Seniors’ Rights Award from the 60 Plus Association, a national seniors’ advocacy organization. The Guardian of Seniors’ Rights Award is given to Members of Congress who have demonstrated commitment to working for the seniors they represent.

“I am honored to receive the Guardian of Seniors’ Rights Award,” Woodall said. “Our social safety nets for seniors are in trouble. I was proud to support the FY 2012 ‘Path to Prosperity’ Budget Proposal, which offers viable long-term solutions for Medicare and Social Securitywhile preserving current benefit levels for seniors 55 and older.”

This is Woodall’s first official award as a newly-elected Member of Congress.

“I will continue to fight for conservative solutions to the problems that currently ail this great nation,” Woodall said.

“There is still a lot of work that needs to be done, but this award provides an opportunity to celebrate what the 112th Congress has achieved thus far. This award also serves as a reminder that we still have so much more to do. I will continue fighting hard on behalf of the seniors and all those residing in my district, and I am grateful for all of the support that I have received.”
