(07-02) 04:00 PST Sacramento -- Rep. Darrell Issa, within months of leaving Army service in the early 1970s, was arrested twice on illegal-weapons charges, including an incident in Michigan that led to a misdemeanor gun conviction, The Chronicle has learned.

Issa's weapons arrests, when he was an ex-GI and college student, have come under new scrutiny as the millionaire San Diego County Republican attempts to oust Gov. Gray Davis in an unprecedented recall campaign. Issa's $1 million in donations have fueled the recall's momentum.

In a news conference Tuesday, gun control groups attacked Issa as an extremist friend of the National Rifle Association who would threaten assault- weapons laws. They showed a video in which Issa's campaign for U.S. Senate in 1998 operated a booth at a Los Angeles County gun show, where high-powered weapons and Nazi memorabilia were being sold.

Realize that this guy is just as much of a boy scout as the hammer himself. Now it is not just his local paper, which at times actually produces good investigative reports (when they hire a reporter that does that, sinks a committee chairman and then is promptly fired, yes Duke Cunningham for all of those with short memories)... now he will have NATIONAL media watching his every step. I am counting on this "boy scout" tripping soon, and severely tripping.

Perhaps FINALLY he will be nailed. But anybody else with THAT rap sheet... so yes, I expect his past to catch on.

And yes I believe in redemption, as I said in the Vick threads, but Daryll has a reputation. So I cannot wait for him to make a mistake and hopefully for the blood hounds to follow the trail.

By the way, the Hammer also had a rep, and a rap sheet... just saying.

2. I remember Issa from the Clinton days and idiotic investigations.
Put the heat on this corporate whore. It's high time Dems nail a prick like Issa to his conservanazi swastika in the public forum.

were for naught.. Bush/Cheney played him... He was used...like horse breeders who use a field stallion to "woo" the brood mare, only to pull him off at the last minute, so they can bring in the "good" stallion.. That way the "good stallion" does not get hurt in the lead-up to "the act", and by the time he arrives on the scene, the mare is ready & willing.

Ole Darrell probably had the moving company on speed dial, for his imminent move to the Governor's Mansion...only to have Ahhhhnold step in & snatch it away from him..

I WOULD like to know a bit more about his remarkably short (and fortuitous) military service, right smack in the middle of the Viet Nam War.. I thought this car insurance fraud happened WHILE he was at Castle AFB.

See how ONE "little" decision by some obscure prosecutor/judge can have dire consequences later? Had he & bro been convicted on the FELONY the committed, he might never have been able to run for congress (or might have been too ashamed to).

Dems decision to "go easy" on Reagan's admin for Iran Contra led us to Bush 1 and Bush 2

Cowering on the Bush AWOL thing, only made him cockier & more dangerous

Our reticence to bear down on Bush Cheney over the Plame incident (and a myriad of other things), emboldened & immunized republicans to bigger & nastier "pranks".

Republicans are junkyard dogs with a bone.. They NEVER back down & they ALWAYS attack..

6. Duke got caught by the San Diego Union Trib
and the Hammer was trapped too. These two were the height of corruption. So is good ol' Darell. He will be caught. It is a matter of time, serious.

He has a reputation and there is a reason for that.

8. Still don't know how Issa escaped that probe.
Duke was talking his head off, wasn't he?

Is that when Bush carefully fired any honest attorney he had mistakenly hired?
