GOP trying to push Hopper out of recall, under the bus?
Wed, 05/25/2011 - 6:14pm |

Hopper, beset by personal problems as well as political ones, looks like a dead duck. He's being challenged by Jessica King, who came within an eyelash of beating him in 2008.

Hopper reportedly insists he's not getting out, but if Gov. Scott Walker were to dangle a higher-paying job in front of him he might have a change of heart. He could also face a primary, but no challenger has surfaced yet and that gets messy.

Rabid talker Charlie Sykes says Hopper should do “the right thing” and step aside in the race because he's polling poorly and has personal baggage that would make it an “ugly” campaign, WisPolitics said. Sykes is no doubt acting as the party's mouthpiece, since he seldom if ever has an original idea.

1. Wouldn't a state job be problematic given Hopper's - err - randiness?

I suppose Walker could get one of his "bidness" buddies to give "his randiness" a job.

5. Walker can create an OSHA department for Hopper to run:
Department of Hotel and Mattress Inspection, or something like that ...

election for the slot or is someone appointed? Just checked..there would be a new election scheduled by the governor for the seat.
Question now, is how long will the governor take to schedule it if "bed" Hopper resigns?

3. This gets really crazy--the recall election is already scheduled.
So then Hopper does whatever he does, and the recall election proceeds with some other R candidate. I think that's what happens. They're just trying to find a stronger candidate for the recall election. It is not required that the incumbent who is being recalled be a candidate in the recall election. If the Rs fail to field a candidate, TS. The election proceeds with the Dem as the only one on the ballot.

4. Jess King should be a shoo-in. I saw lots of King signs when I was in ...
... Fond du Lac yesterday. Hopper is toxic, but so are the Republicans. Lots of union loyalty here. The Merc Marine Union took a major hit to help the community and the support for the working man seems pretty high right now.
