7 US soldiers among 8 NATO dead in Afghan blast
KABUL, Afghanistan —
A U.S. official says all seven of the NATO service members killed in a powerful bomb explosion in southern Afghanistan were Americans.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for Thursday's bombing in Shorabak district of Kandahar province near the Pakistan border.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the information had not yet been publicly released.

Afghan officials says two Afghan policemen also were killed in the blast.

6. These seven died for their country, but not for liberty.
I honor the service of all members of the military, but it bothers me when the public confuses dying for American policy with dying for American liberty.

Overseas, very, very few Americans have died for our liberty, although many have died for their country.
