Hugo Chavez Wants Someone Famous to be US Ambassador

Hugo Chávez doesn't like Barack Obama's nomination for US Ambassador to Venezuela, Larry Palmer, who suggested that Chávez's administration is basically a drug cartel, so Palmer was rejected. But Chávez has a few suggestions — famous people who like him!

Chávez doesn't take criticism well, or at all, really, so when Palmer was nominated by Obama, he didn't stand a chance. Palmer in the recent past has said that Chávez has close ties to Colombian drug-trafficking rebels, and that morale in his military is low. And, after Chávez rejected Palmer, the US revoked the visa of Venezuela's ambassador. Looking to defuse the situation, in a speech yesterday the Venezuelan leader threw a few names out of people who could represent the United States in Caracas:

I hope they name Oliver Stone. I'll suggest a candidate ... Sean Penn or Chomsky. We have a lot of friends there. Bill Clinton."


Come on now, Barack Obama. Hugo Chávez wants you to pay attention to him! Please?

Does she have what it takes to potentially be the next First Lady of Venezuela? Somehow violent outbursts don't seem to fit that picture. Then again, this IS Hugo Chavez we're talking about here. Another supermodel dating another politician? This time, the press is reporting that Naomi Campbell is dating Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. The British stunner recently traveled to Caracas to interview Chavez for British magazine GQ and reporters there claim the pair are smitten with each other and have been courting for two months. Respected El Universal journalist Nelson Bocaranda claims 53-year-old Chavez fell “head-over-heels” in love with Campbell after their interview, in which he flirted and invited the 37-year-old to “touch my muscles”. The catwalk queen is quoted in El Universal, describing Chavez as “not a gorilla, he is more a bull”. While Campbell has never married, Chavez has four children from two failed marriages. The shocking news of the coupling comes on the same day as the marriage of French leader Nicolas Sarkozy and former supermodel Carla Bruni.
