If a person really thinks about it what the conservatives are trying to do is further expand the workforce. They want people to start working at a younger age (striping child labor laws), and they want people to stay in the workforce longer (ending Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security). The conservatives must think working from cradle to grave is uniquely American like apple pie, baseball, and Chevrolet (pre-Obama Chevrolet mind you).
That is until they suffer the "trickle down" effects of an overflowing labor force. Do they honestly believe this benefits them in any way, shape, or form? They might be able to do 8 different jobs now, but will that continue when they're 60, or how about 70? After all that hard work, do they honestly believe that their beloved employer will even think twice before casting them aside for a younger, cheaper model?
This type of backward thinking is even harder to figure out when the subject is older and retired. It's like saying "I've got mine, fuck you!". Shame on you! Shame on you for dropping the torch given to you by those who fought and died for those rights. When they preach about their kids repaying the national debt don't they realize they're going to be paying it with the tears of a child forced to work to put food on table, the blood of a steelworker who will no longer have a safe work environment, and the sweat of a factory worker who can no longer unionize?
I thought we've buried the sins of our past, but it seems this new crop of conservative politicians are hellbent to resurrect them.
