Ala. town hit by tornadoes bans FEMA trailers
CORDOVA, Ala. (AP) — James Ruston's house was knocked off its foundation by tornadoes that barreled through town last month and is still uninhabitable. He thought help had finally arrived when a truck pulled up to his property with a mobile home from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Then he got the call: Single-wide mobile homes, like the FEMA one, are illegal in the city of Cordova.

The city's refusal to let homeless residents occupy temporary housing provided by FEMA has sparked outrage in this central Alabama town of 2,000, with angry citizens filling a meeting last week and circulating petitions to remove the man many blame for the decision, Mayor Jack Scott.

...

Scott has heard all the complaints, and he isn't apologizing. He said he doesn't want run-down mobile homes parked all over town years from now.

"I don't feel guilty," he said. "I can look anyone in the eye."

4. Fine.
Then perhaps those 2000 people should go elsewhere, and this asshole will be the mayor of Nowhere, AL, population 1.

6. They have lost their minds!
Oh my God. These people are beyond inhuman. They do not have the basic human emotions to lead. I'm beginning to believe what I'm reading about psychopathic personalities in the Republican party.

21. This isn't an uncommon law in the south.
Small town tyrants make a ton of laws like this.

Of course what's the fun in being a tyrant if you can't make people that suffered a tragedy suffer some more for the sake of your own ego?

11. Did Eric Cantor demand that aid to Alabama be withheld...
Until offsetting cuts to Medicare are done like he said about Missouri? I wonder if what he said about aid to Missouri had anything to do with Missouri having a Democratic Governor?

18. Nixon's a bit of a DINO
(though I voted for him anyway-knew he'd win) but some of the crap pulled on Joplin does come down to who the governor is. The rest of it is because he thinks that the heavily Republican SW MO will blame any and all Dems if they don't fall in step. He'll try to blame it on them, saying that he tried to make concessions and they refused. Last thing he really wants them to know is exactly how he's bending them over a barrel.

Hell, most of the state needs federal aid right now, either for tornadoes, severe storm damage, or flooding. It's awful right now.

13. Republican or Democrat?
I can't find out anything on this guy.

It makes no difference his party- a cruel, heartless asshole is a cruel, heartless asshole- but I'd feel better knowing he's got an (R) next to his name.

The fact that his political party isn't being plastered everywhere leads me to believe he's GOP, but I just want to know for certain.

14. I'll bet the Mayor's house wasn't damaged by the tornadoes.
I'd put the trailer in place and tell Mr. Mayor to come try and remove it. Then, I'd sit in a lawn chair with a 12 ga. in my lap. Screw the asshole.

15. you don't know the half of it . . .
"Jack Scott ain't sayin' nothin', the ordinance speaks for itself," the mayor told reporter Val Walton this week. "I ain't said s---."

But the mayor -- whose police department and city offices are themselves housed in temporary FEMA single-wides -- really has said a whole bunch of ... well let's just call it mess.

He said this ordinance stands firm, like a line in the sand. He has said, through his action and inaction, that it is more important than his people. And he has said, out loud and in earnest, that the ban is needed to keep Cordova property values up and to encourage people to build on vacant lots.

Talk about a bunch of mess.

here's the rest . . .

i found this googling the mayor.

19. Well, one part of this solution might be easy. . .
perhaps the people can demand the use of "eminent domain" laws to take possession of the mayor's house and turn that into a community shelter. Then offer him a FEMA trailer set up just outside the city limits, and change the law to require the mayor live within the city or must lose his office.

Now that's playing the Republican game.
