Lavish Hospital or NOT!!!..

Is This Part of COST rising in Heathcare????

Issaquah's new hospital — the first one built on the Eastside in 34 years — is turning the concept of hospital on its head, putting food and spa and wellness products up front, and rooms — literally and figuratively — out back.

"It's not your father's hospital," jokes Kevin Brown, senior vice president and chief administrative officer for Swedish Medical Center, whose latest project — Swedish/Issaquah — is to begin a phased opening in July.

For sure, your father's hospital didn't open into a five-story atrium surrounded by a mall. His hospital's lobby, you can bet, didn't include a fireplace and a destination restaurant — no hospital cafeteria here — with a wood-burning oven.

And nobody thought of Ye Olde Hospital as a place where anyone would want to go for fun.

1. Talking Beds??
:yoiks:

Before a translator is engaged, for example, a bed might tell a patient in Spanish: "You have a tube in your throat to help you breathe."

:wow:

4. If your bed could talk, what would it say?
And would you rather it keep it's mouth shut?

7. My sister took SCUBA lessons at her hospital.
However, she lives in Thailand. They have an odd kind of system their, basically two-tiered. Everyone gets health care, but if you have the money you can opt for one of the fancier hospitals. The hospital she delivered her baby in had a spa and a swimming pool and a nice day care center. She stayed for five days after giving birth, not because of complications, but just to make sure she and the baby were okay. The "regular" hospitals are more utilitarian, but still clean and nice, and everyone has access. Also, there are lots of storefront clinics that offer basic services like shots and minor wound care. She has lived there for almost ten years now on the island of Koh Samui, and says after everything she reads and hears about the U.S. now, she has no desire to return (except to visit).

8. The one they built here a few years ago just had to have marble counter tops everywhere. But you
could die waiting for a nurse to respond while in ICU! I have issued orders to my family that they are NOT to take me there again for any reason.

9. Hospitals have figured out they have something retail stores crave....
....foot traffic. Restaurants, baby gear, medical supplies, photo studios and all else will be popping up soon.

Remember the hoopla over clinics in WalMart? Well, just wait until there's a WalMart in your hospital!!
