As the only state to lose population in the past decade, Michigan will lose a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012.
As Democrats at the mercy of a Republican-led redistricting effort, U.S. Reps. Sander Levin of Royal Oak or Gary Peters of Bloomfield Township could lose their district.
The Detroit News on Saturday published details of a GOP draft redistricting plan that targets Levin and Peters. If approved, it would force the pair into a potential primary battle for control of a new-look 9th District.

There were some concerns about the map, sources said without disclosing what they were, delaying its final approval before the plan is to be introduced in the state Legislature. Ultimately, it outlines a plan that has the potential to rein in Democrats' influence on Capitol Hill, even after the GOP picked up two seats in last year's election.
