Seattle attorney charged with keying badly parked cars
By LEVI PULKKINEN, SEATTLEPI.COM STAFF
Published 10:37 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2011

A Seattle attorney accused of keying and leaving threatening notes on improperly parked cars at a downtown parking garage has been charged with malicious mischief.

King County prosecutors claim Ronald Clarke Mattson vandalized at least three cars at Columbia Center, including one parked askew by building security as part of a sting operation.

On March 9, a woman returned to her Ford SUV to find an angry note, written on Washington Athletic Club stationery, left on her windshield. The note’s author – identified by prosecutors as Mattson – suggested the woman “take some parking lessons” and called her an idiot.

Having returned home, the woman realized someone had dragged a key across her car doors, leaving deep scratches, according to charging documents. She contacted Columbia Center security officers, who photographed her car and took custody of the note.

1. I sympathize with her.
Some people can't park for shit.

You do realize if you fuck up the first time, you can back up and re-position yourself, right?

Some people can be so inconsiderate.

3. Both of them should be ticketed. He should have to take the parking attendant's wages for a month.
She should be sentenced to parking school or made to drive a vehicle she's competent to operate.

4. Ever had to park crooked in a crowded garage because the guy in the space next to you did?
Then he leaves, making it look like you parked like a jerk on purpose.

Happens more times than you think; things aren't always as they appear.

Anyone that purposely criminally damages another vehicle over something so trivial as this has some anger issues, and needs counseling.

10. No, actually, I haven't.
Unfortunately I have experience with this every day. Someone else parking crooked doesn't prevent me from parking straight. It's a pain in MY ASS because that means I have to shimmy out of the parking space if I leave before they do, but it should affect them little because they are already in an easy position to reverse out. It's difficult to explain, and I doubt this will help at all, but let's say these lines represent cars:

\||||||

The car parked crooked is already in position to back out easily, at least if he is going to the left. The car parked straight (me) is in the difficult position, because I can't go to the left because my front end will hit his back end, yet if I go to the right my front end will scrape the other guy's car. I basically have to back out and turn slightly, then go forward, then back out again and turn some more, etc.

It's a pain in the ass and inconsiderate.

2. Good for Him!
... Just write the notes in a common Microsoft program such WordPad that cannot be so easily traced next time!

5. Yeah! He should be able to beat those people with a tire iron, too!
Glad to see Vandals have their own cheering section on DU.

Guess you wouldn't mind if he did that to your vehicle, becuase he thought you parked too close, in his estimation.

6. What was he thinking? Why not just leave non-threatening notes
instead of keying the cars? I hope he loses a lot of clients, and he probably will after this story.

7. Reminds me of the scene in Pulp Fiction where Travolta's
character has his car keyed right after he got it out of the body shop. He said something like, "ya know, it woulda been worth 'em doing it, if I coulda just caught 'em!"

I know the feeling. I've also felt bad about doing a crappy park job because the next guy was screwed up. Could be he wasn't the one that started it though.

I remember a guy that had it coming to him once. He intentionally took two spots at a popular bar. Parked diagonally, evidently so no one would ding his new car opening their door. I would be surprised if he didn't get keyed.

8. I left a note on someone's windshileld once.
They had managed to somehow block 3 spaces with a Honda Civic-one of the original little bitty ones.

9. It's usually one bad parking job that starts a chain reaction
Every car is force to scoot over a couple inches to park.

The bad part if when the person who parked bad in the first place leaves and the rest of the people parking think you are the jerk that parked badly.

not that I condone his keying. But he does need anger management.
