Crystal Kim, the breast cancer patient who was denied carriage by Korean Air last month, has died in her native South Korea.

Kim, who suffered from stage 4 breast cancer, died peacefully in her sleep, a former co-worker told KING 5 News, Seattle's NBC News affiliate. She was unable to fight off a lung infection.

Last month, Kim was not allowed to board Korean Air flights despite having clearance from her doctors. Kim and her daughter, Mimi, spent several days in limbo attempting to get to Seoul.

On May 13, Delta Air Lines stepped in and flew the duo to South Korea. "Ultimately, she had a doctor's note, and that was good enough for us," Delta spokesperson Susan Chana Elliott said at the time.
