So, all he had to do, was wait I few days after the news came out, then hold a press conference with his wife at his side. He then said that he had prayed for forgiveness, and that Jesus had forgiven him. The wife then gave the reporters a sickly little smile, and poof, no more scandal. And since Jesus has forgiven him, you can't bring it up without pissing Jesus off. So don't.

How is it that Vitter gets a free pass from the media?

I am more concerned about the obvious and continual carnal knowledge that most of our politicians are having with corporations and their CEO's and executives in just about every controlling industry that is set on making us powerless Serfs forever with no liberty or power that we can ever utilize again.

As I recall, it was a New Orleans blogger who said Canal street hookers called him "Vitter the Shitter," but to report something that wild in the MSM, you need 2 sources. The only hard facts were that he solicited prostitutes. And I know I'm not the only one who saw that press conference footage with his wife in that leopard print dress. There was plenty of coverage.

I realize DUers are not pleased that this Weiner story is getting play in the media, but I think all the talk here about how this would be a non-story if it were a Republican is just confirmation bias. If it were a Republican, and it was getting precisely the same amount of coverage, we'd all be complaining about how the press was "ignoring" the story.

No way. The corporate media never made an ongoing circus out of Vitter's diaper escapades. You can say say that's because they only had one source. But here they have made a huge stinking circus of the Weiner photo -- and the source is a totally discredited Republicon propaganda pimp named Brietbart, and an anonymous "patriot76."

Clearly, the corporate media gave Vitter a huge freaking corporate republicon pass. And clearly the corporate media is having an ugly, perverted ongoing orgasm about an incident that is -- all things considered -- far less important.

Vitter was not held to public accountability for his illegal acts, his marriage violations, or his rank hypocrisy.

That kind of different treatment for Republicon siNNers is, to put it mildly, profoundly unfair.

He admitted soliciting prostitutes and then hid from the media until they forgot about him. Doing all these "can't say with certitude" interviews was an unforced error on Weiner's part, wherein he himself stoked the fire and kept the story in the news cycle.

Clearly, even if Weiner had taken and tweeted the photo, it wouldn't come close to Vitter's crimes. I doubt Weiner will resign, and I bet he gets reelected too, as his district isn't a very prudish one. I hope he can shrug this off--he's one of the only congressmen I actually like. But he hasn't handled this very well.

Vitter couldn't be charged legally because the statute of limitations had already run out by the time he was busted, which is a shame IMHO. But if you think he was reelected because people didn't know about the hooker stuff, I have to disagree. Everyone knows about that, because the press DID cover it. He just didn't prolong the coverage by going on a media tour.
