Basic story here:
http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2011/06/02/u-s-attorney-general-wants-hbo-series-%E2%80%98the-wire%E2%80%99-to-return/He summoned one of the show's former actors who now runs a program to help kids in bad situations.
Holder, in the hearing, called for another season of The Wire. I guess we can never have enough gritty views of young inner city kids fucking up.
Hey Eric. I have an idea. How about focusing on *all* kids, including those kids in the affluent white suburbs where heroin addiction is at epidemic levels? How about ending the criminalization of this disease and refocusing on health care and rehabilitation? How about we stop WASTING BILLIONS OF DOLLARS on stupid fucking social "wars" and deal with the actual fucking problems?????
(Doubt me calling it epidemic? Google "heroin epidemic suburbs" and read the stories in the serious media.)
How about that?
On a related note, kudos to "Wire" creator David Simon:

Wire creator David Simon remained coy, stating that he appreciated the Attorney General's remarks. But Simon stayed true to the cause and reprimanded the Department of Justice via e-mail:"I've spoken to Ed Burns and we are prepared to go to work on season six of The Wire if the Department of Justice is equally ready to reconsider and address its continuing prosecution of our misguided, destructive and dehumanising drug prohibition."
Smith was also critical of the so-called War on Drugs, which he described as "nothing more or less than a war on our underclass, succeeding only in transforming our democracy into the jailingest nation on the planet."
Big ups to David Smith for keeping it real with Mr. Holder AND staying focused on America's bogus War on Drugs.
