Republican control of the House will last two years...
The American people did not vote for "the tea party vision of limited government, lower taxes and less regulation," they voted their pocketbooks: because there is no money in them, they decided to vote for someone else.

The problem the Republicans have is, they don't know how to fix the problems because all the problems we have were caused by too-low taxes (yes, more money means more spending--but they spend it ON US!!!) too-little regulation and not enough government.

When the American people realize in about two months they got screwed--that Boehner and Company do NOT intend to fix anything, just investigate and obfuscate--the stage will be set for a flip to the Democrats the likes of which you have never seen.

2. An economic turnaround and Sarah Palin as the Republican candidate
Edited on Wed Jan-05-11 07:41 PM by Dawson Leery
as well as GOTV (meaning the base gets off their couches to vote) is what is needed.
The people have forgotten what the GOP/Bush did and put them back in charge.
On the other hand, the GOP has signaled that they are going to do nothing but oppose Obama and the Democrats.
The 112th Congress will be as worthless as the 80th Congress.

3. I would hope that is what will happen
but with the republican propaganda machine at work who the hell knows anymore. The republicans had 8 years and stealing elections and destroying america, but the people forgot about that in like 6 months.

4. We STILL have our work cut out for us....
...if we continue to allow the tea-baggers to define us and what we stand for, voters will not come back to us any time soon. We, as a party, have to work on stronger, more effectivbe communication STARTING TODAY.

6. um ... hello? MSM ... the "corporate media" ...
will be tooting the horns of the "economic recovery" under the Repugs' "charge" ...

which, if you use the Dow as a guide, would probably be anemic compared to the recovery Obama had made since its bottoming out in March 2009 to the high at the 2010 election ... was closing in on doubling.

7. Except for the same two things that swung the election in 2010. 2010 was a
testament to how well two strategies worked:

1) the expenditure of vast amounts of secret unaccountable money to a) deceive the public in general, and b) swing key races

2) the rigid adherence to party talking points that piss on anything good and lie about the rest. The gop's willingness to deceive, smear, fabricate reality, use hate and fear, etc and spread it through msm, cable "news", pundits, and 90% of talk radio works. All you have to have is no sense of embarrassment. A well informed public is key to democracy and the gop has undermined both for purposes of enhancing election chances.

These are still in play. In 2010, dems had all the issues, history, a relatively popular dem leader, many recent successes. I'm fairly sure in 2012 things will only be better. Unfortunately, the gop will just have to raise more money and increase the catapulting of the propaganda.

8. Yeah, good points, welcome to DU
The whole idea was to get people to tune out and be turned off. It worked.

About 20% of the people voted and it was just 10.2% that got the assholes back in power.
Of course the voting machines could have easily switched enough votes to make it LOOK that way.

And what did the other 80% of the American people do the last election? Stayed as far away as they could. We are so fucked it ain't funny.

Thanks for the fish!
